But I couldn’t help it.
I stayed in the house for three days, barely
functioning, until my best friend, Sarah, got
back from her trip. She walked in, hugged me
and started crying.
Sarah and I were practically sisters and were
always there for each other. When I got
married, she was on a business trip and
wasn’t able to make it.
“I shouldn’t have left town. I should have been
there for you, it’s all my fault…” she sobbed. She finally stopped crying and sniffled, “They can’t get away with this, Brittany! We’re going to make them pay for what they did to you!” “And with Tiffany’s manipulative personality, she probably has another trick up her sleeve!”
<
I nodded.
Tiffany and I were sisters by blood, but that‘
where the similarities ended.
She was always sick, the doctors said she
wouldn’t make it past 28, and my parents fel
guilty about it, they always spoiled her. All my
life, I got the short end of the stick because
of her.
And now, on her deathbed, she was trying to
take everything.
Not gonna happen.
I wasn’t going to be a victim in her and Jake’s
little soap opera!
I wiped my tears and told Sarah my plan.
She would find witnesses who could vouch
for my relationship with Jake.
く
TUI TTTY TO W Cart.
I would gather the evidence of our
relationship.
I wasn’t sure what Tiffany and Jake were up
to next, but I wasn’t going to wait and find
out.
But I never expected Tiffany to stoop to the
level she did!
After taking a few days off, I went back to
work.
I had a mountain of work to do because of all
the time off. It was exhausting, I barely had
time to eat.
When I finally got home that day, my parents, Tiffany, and Jake were sitting on my couch.
I remembered that Jake had a spare key to
my place.
く
Looking at him, remembering the things we
had done together in that place, I felt sick to
my stomach.
I needed to sell the place and move quickly.
“What are you doing here?” I asked, my voice
cold.
My mom pretended to not notice my tone. “Oh, honey, you and Tiffany are sisters. You
can get over this.”
“Tiffany agreed that after she’s gone, we can
have a big, fancy wedding to make up for
this.”
“We just weren’t thinking straight.”
It was rare for my mom to apologize, but I just felt anger. “So, you and Dad were in on
this?”
My parent’s eyes flicked away, looking guilty.
