But knowing I was just a replacement, I was
disgusted.
“What do you care?” I spat out.
“Brittany!” Jake tried to touch me, but I
dodged him. He said wearily, “Can you just
play nice?”
“Just let me get through this year with
Tiffany, and we can be together. Okay? Just
wait for me?”
I laughed.
“You’re disgusting!” I said. “You think you can
just have both of us? You think I’m stupid?”
“Brittany! We love each other! Why do you
have to make this so hard?”
“Love each other? Yeah, right?” I said, my

He said, hurt, “Brittany, don’t say things you
don’t mean.”
He looked at me, all lovey–dovey.

Jake’s company was quick to act. Within a
day, they fired him for being a sleaze and
having an unstable private life.
He was supposed to get a promotion this
year. Now, he got nothing.
The thought made me giggle.
Of course, the whole family came to find me.
I knew they would come after me so I booked
a hotel room.
When they couldn’t find me, my parents called
a ton of times, but I didn’t answer.
They were furious.
I watched them yelling and cursing at me in
front of the security cameras.
