Chapter 17
Eleanor’s face suddenly drained of color. Even though she was prepared, those words still stung a lot. But she wondered if Dominick wasn’t here to make a mockery of her, then what else could be possibly be here fort
Eleanor suddenly smiled as she spoke. “Mr. Vanderbilt, if you’re here to show of your affection, could you please go somewhere else? I don’t want to
see that
Dominick’s eyes turned sharp and icy. “What did you just call me? Hearing Mr. Vanderbilt from her lips felt so foreign. He’d never heard her call him bke that beloar
“Mr. Vanderbilt,” she replied calmly, her words dripping with indifference. “Is something wrong with that? We’re no longer connected, aren’t we?”
Domnick stared at her, his expression unreadable. After a long pause, he sneered, “Who gave you the right to lecture me, Eleanort Look at yourself in the mirror. Who do you think you are now!”
“I’m just nobody” Eleanor’s voice trembled with a bitter laugh. “I don’t have any right, and that’s exactly why I don’t want to be your eyesore
Dominick’s Irown deepened as he retorted, “You don’t have a say on this, Eleanor,”
Just then, Alexis unddenly tugged at Dominick’s sleeve, her eyes gleaming with mischief. “Hey, I just had an idea.
Dominick looked down at Alexis, his expression softening, almost too deliberately. “Oht What’s your idea?
His tone was a world apart from how he had addressed Eleanor moments before. Alexis put on a sweet smile, her voice a delicate whisper, “Why don’t you stay here and officiate the wedding for Eleanor?
“Alexis, you—” Eleanor’s face turned ashen. She had always overestimated Alexis’s evil mind.
Dominick shot an sey glance at Eleanor and nodded coolly. “That’s not a bad idea.”
Gregory and Jennifer immediately stood, eager to give Dominick the best seat in the room.
Dominick sealed into the chair, his eyes coldly surveying Eleanor and the man beside her.
“Dominick Elear could barely hold herself together. Her voice cracked as she demanded, “You’ve already forced me to marry this man. Isn’t that enough? Do you have to officiate the wedding just to get your kicks”
Dominick’s face remained unmoved, and he replied, “Hey, hey, you gotta know your place. You’re not in a position to question me
Eleanor’s throat tightened, a metallic taste flooding her mouth as nausea rose. She hadn’t eaten or drunk anything in days, and her body was too weak to take much more. Her outburst earlier had drained whatever little strength she had left.
She stared at

Alexis, on the other hand, was quick to ask Dominick, “Nick, why don’t we follow Eleanor and see her new place!”
Dominick shot her a cold | and asked, “What’s there to see? A woman like that will only ruin your vision”
“Yeah, Alem, youd better skipu. That is a place for someone like you Gregory claimed in, clearly disapproving of the idea. He had a lot to gain from keeping Alesis on his side, and he didnt want to let her set fout in the dry place.
Alexis smiled gently and insisted, “Don’t worry, Dad. I care about Eleanor Actually, Alexis didn’t care aluna Eleanor’s well–being. She couldn’t be at prace until she saw with her eyes how much Eleanor would suffer.
Seeing Alexis so persistent, Gregory reluctantly turned to Dominick and asked, “Mr. Vanderbilt, what do you

“Fine” Dominick nodded, a slight frown tugging at his brow.
“Really? That’s great” Alexis beamed with excitement. “Thank you, Nick”
Dominick merely responded with an emotionless “Mini” and led Alexis to his car. Without another word, they quickly drove off
Meanwhile, in the wedding car, Eleanor sat in silence and stared out the window as the buildings outside got more and more rundown. She watched helplessly as the car seemed to head deeper into the shuns…
Eleanor frowned, unable to hold back her cunosity. “Where’s the house?” she asked the groom.
“1-1 don’t know,” the man stammered, his face crimson. It took him forever to spill out for pathetic sentence.
Eleanor sighed deeply, disappointment settling over her. She turned to Eric, her voice sharp, “Eric, the marriage was arranged by the right? So, surely the Reed family arranged the new house too?”

“Yes,” Eric replied with a cold chuckle while driving. “Don’t worry, Ms. Beril, Everything has been taken care of. Mr. Reed has seen to it that you have the most appropriate environment. And Mr. Vanderbilt even personally picked a husband for you. You should be grateful.”
Eleanor shot him a glare and asked in an icy tour, “By appropriate, you don’t mean a sliri, do you?

With a snap of has fingers, several maids appeared, bringing in trays of cheap, poorly made food and drinks. The spread was obviously thrown together with no care at all.
