CHAPTER 25
Amara’s POV
The transaction site was an abandoned warehouse just outside the city. Classic neutral ground, isolated, the kind of place where deals either went smoothly or ended in a hail of bullets.
I kept my posture relaxed as I approached the group waiting near a rusted loading dock. My instincts sharpened with every step as I observed them. Four men, all armed, but no visible threats yet.
“Ms. Saints,” one of them greeted, his tone as oily as his slicked–back hair. “A pleasure.”
“Let’s get this over with.” I did not bother with pleasantries anymore as I pulled the envelope from my jacket.
The man smirked, motioning for one of his men to step forward and inspect the documents. I stayed alert, my hand resting

casually on my hip, close enough to my holstered gun to grab it in a split second if
necessary.
The seconds dragged as the man flipped through the papers, and I eyed the others, assessing if anyone would make a threatening move.
Finally, he nodded. “Looks good.”
“Of course it does,” I said coolly. “Now, your end of the deal.”
The man gestured to a nearby crate, and one of his men opened it to reveal the goods exactly what Matteo had requested.
For a moment, I allowed myself to relax. The deal was sealed without a hitch, and I could feel the weight of Matteo’s worry start to lift from my chest.
But the feeling did not last long.
I walked back to where my car was parked which was a little farther. It felt something

was off, though I could not immediately pinpoint what. My driver was already in the seat, the engine idling, and he did not look up as I approached. That was strange. Alex, the driver personally assigned to me by Matteo, always acknowledged me.
I hesitated for the briefest second, my instincts screaming at me to stop. But nothing overtly threatening stood out so I brushed off the anxiety and chalked it up to
leftover tension from the transaction.
Sliding into the back seat, I closed the door.
“Let’s go.”
The driver did not respond, but the car started moving smoothly.
But then, I noticed something different in the car the smell. I frowned as I glanced at the air conditioning unit.
The scent was faint at first, almost unnoticeable, but it grew stronger with every breath I took. I sat up straighter as the realization hit me too late and I felt my

head throb and my mind hazed, my vision beginning to swirl.
“Who are you?” I demanded but the driver’s silence was deafening.
I reached for my gun, but my fingers fumbled, suddenly feeling heavy, and my limbs felt like lead.
“Dammit,” I hissed, trying to fight the drowsiness overtaking me as I tried to grip the gun tighter and lift my arm, but my hands became numb and the pistol dropped on the leather seat.
Was I too stubborn that I did not listen to Matteo?
Is this going to be my end? I laughed inwardly at the thoughts in my head. I failed, for the first time, I was caught by whoever had done this.
But if I survived, I would make sure they pay for this.
As my vision turned black and my senses

shut off, I heard the driver‘ s voice before I
completely passed out.
