CHAPTER 31
Matteo s POV
111
The vibration of my phone in pocket. pulled me from the spiral. Frowning, I pulled it out, my brow furrowing at the sight of an unknown number flashing on
the screen.
“Jeoff,” I said, holding up the phone. “Could be them,” I said, expecting that it must be the abductors. I had already thought of everything I could give in exchange for Amara and her safety, anything, everything they wanted, just to give her back. Millions? Billions? Golds and diamonds? I could give up all of those just for her. I was even willing to step down and dismantle my mafia just to see her return.
Jeoff s eyes flicked to me in the rearview mirror and I saw his grip on the wheel tightening, but he said nothing as his focus
returned to the road.

I accepted the call. “Who is this?”
There was a pause, then a voice I had not expected.
“Where is she?”
Luca Moretti.
My grip on the phone tightened instantly and my rage flickered like a lit match. I swear, if this bastard had done anything to Amara I would cut every pound of his flesh while he was still breathing.
“Did you forbid Amara?” Luca demanded again, with accusation. “I just needed to talk to her about something important, but, you won’t even let her answer her phone now? What the hell are you playing at, Matteo? This is about The Obsidian, I need to talk to her.”
The sheer audacity of his accusations made my blood boil. If I would guess, he had the biggest motive to take Amara from me, and yet he was playing this game, feigning ignorance, acting like he did not know

when he himself must have done it.
“Give her back to me if you do not want her anymore,” he continued, his voice rising with indignation. “What, are you holding her hostage now? Forbidding her from talking to anyone? What are you so scared of, Matteo? That she might actually return to me?”
I could not hold back any longer, listening to his facade. “Don’t act like you don’t know,” I snapped.
“What the hell are you talking about?” Luca shot back, confusion laced in his tone, but still there was that accusation.
“You know exactly what I mean,” I hissed. “Where is she? Where did you take Amara?”
“Take her?” Luca sounded genuinely perplexed, his confusion only fueling my anger. “I don‘ t-”
“Don’t lie to me, Luca,” I growled, cutting him off mid–sentence. “You have

already proven how low you are willing to go. She doesn’t want you anymore, but here you are, still forcing yourself into her life. Let her go.”
His pause was heavy, filled with disbelief.
“Matteo, I don’t know what you are trying to pull, but I did not take her. If this is your way of hiding her from me, then know that I will see her again and take her back from you.”
His denial and accusations toward me only ignited my fury further.
“Listen to me, and listen carefully,” I warned him. “If I find out you are behind this, if I find out you have touched her, or if this is another one of your pathetic
schemes to worm your way back into her
life-”
I paused.
“I will tear your limbs before I bury you myself, Luca.”
There was a beat of silence before the line

went dead.
Jeoff glanced at me briefly, his expression was as grim as mine. “Luca Moretti?”
“Yeah,” I muttered, shoving the phone. into my pocket. “The bastard thinks I am keeping her from him.”
“You think he is involved?”
“I don’t know yet,” I admitted. “But if he is…”
