CHAPTER 32
Amara s POV
I was awakened by the noise outside the four walls I was kept in, and the screaming did not stop along with the gunshots that echoed with every shot.
I could barely open my eyes with the bruises on my face or move an inch with my battered body. Casey made sure that I could not escape even though she freed me from the ropes that once tied me to the chair. My limbs could barely move, and my head lolled to the side, my breath shallow and uneven as blood trickled from the corner of my lips. Every inch of me was in pain, my ribs burned, my wrists throbbed where they had been bound for hours, and my skin stung from countless cuts and bruises.
I tried to move against the cold floor, to drag myself toward the faint light spilling through the crack beneath the door, but my

body would not respond. My limbs were dead weight, refusing to obey the frantic pleas of my mind.
Is this it?
The thought drifted through my foggy brain as the noise outside grew louder. Boots stomped, men shouted, and more gunfire exploded like fireworks, rattling the concrete walls of my confinement.
And then the door burst open with a deafening clang.
I flinched, my weak body jolting at the sound, and I blinked slowly to clear the
blur in my vision. The figure that filled the
doorway made my heart stop for a
moment, then stutter back to life when I 退去 realized who was standing there, tense,
frozen, and in shock.
Matteo.
His face twisted with fury, and the hard
rplanes of his features carved in pure rage,
but his eyes… his eyes were wide with

panic as they scanned the room, then locked on me.
“Amara,” he whispered in panic as he rushed to my side.
“Matteo…” My voice was barely more than a rasp, weak and broken, but the effort sent a sharp jolt of pain through my chest, and I coughed.
His knees hit the ground beside me as he reached out, his hands trembling slightly before they found their way to me. He cradled my face gently as if he was afraid that he might break me when I was already this broken. His touch was careful as if I would shatter under his fingers.
“Cara mia,” he murmured and I noticed how his voice cracked as his thumb brushed against the blood on my cheek.
“I’m here. You‘ re safe now. I’ve got you.”
I could barely see him through the haze of tears in my eyes, but I could hear the raw

emotion in his voice making my heart clench even more. “F*ck what did they do?!” he gritted his teeth in anger as he could not fathom what had happened to me as he scanned my bruised body.
“You… you shouldn’t…” I coughed, the taste of iron filling my mouth.
“Shouldn’t be here.”
