Chapter 5
SONIA’S POV
Laying in the dark cellar which served as my room, I drew solace from the images in my head. There was never a dull moment in my imagination. If it wasn’t voices speaking, it was a replay of memories playing in a loop.
The memory playing right now was one that left a bitter taste in my mouth. Freya and I, running through the forest delight, just before dawn
cape route. In her, I found a friendship that helped me navigate life from a different perspective.
She was my escape
Unfortunately, she never felt the same way about me. I still didn’t know why she would easily betray me like that, but it hurt my heart so deep. I felt raw pain on my chest.
But of course, it was nothing in comparison to the violation my body had experienced in the hands of alpha Rowan and his unruly beta, Blane.
All my life. I had done nothing but treated everyone I’ve met with the utmost respect. Both the young old, rich and poor. 1 was never the kind of person to disregard anyone for any reason.
Everyone always told me I was kind. But when I needed that kindness, I was met with nothingness. Pain that twisted the core of my being
I rolled to the other side of the covers thrown on the ground, to serve as my bed. My back ached. Going from a large bed to almost laying on hard concrete was something I could never have imagined would ever happen. Not with how well my father treated me.
However, life happened, and very swiftly too.
My lashes began to droop, as I felt a sting of tears biting the corner of my eyes. I sniffled, vowing not to cry anymore. It was probably an empty vow. One that would be broken the second I faced my next humiliation. But also one that gave me the much needed strength to finally fall asleep after a long torturous week of my life being turned completely upside down.
In the deep of my dream, I saw a face that could only have been sculpted with the pristine hands of the moon goddess, approaching me like a guiding light.
My legs pulled apart, hoping to welcome that light in me. But just as it stopped in front of me, its silver glow turned into a burning furnace.
Spikes of pain, shot out from its furnace, threatening to pierce through me. I moved back, but it floated towards me faster than any creature I’ve ever seen. Just when I jumped past him. I looked up, and saw it had appeared before me. As it rolled towards me, a loud screech escaped my throat.
I jerked up, fully drenched.
“Oh don’t be dramatic. It’s just cold water. Are you that spoiled that you’ve never had to experience using cold water in spring” A croaky voice from a woman with pitch dark eyes, standing above me, said.
I looked down and saw a bucket in her hand. My eyes traveled further down and discovered she had actually tossed the bucket
of water on me.
I blinked multiple times, clearing up my vision.
“Well, are you awake now?” she asked, playing with her nails.
“I am.” I replied, finally finding my voice.
“Good. You’re needed in the kitchen to prepare Alpha Rowan’s breakfast”

To prepare breakfast? I question in my head. I’ve never had to prepare breakfast. I wasn’t a terrible cook per say, because 1 made one of the maids secretly teach me some of her recipes. But I’ve never had to make use of those lessons.
A tiny voice told me I couldn’t exactly say no, if I loved my life.
“Okay, but can I please take a shower first?” I asked.
She suddenly threw her head back, and burst into a fit of laughter. My eyes squinted as I looked around, wondering what she had seen to make her laugh that hard.
She finally stopped laughing, and raised her head to look at me. I flinched when I saw the disgust all over her eyes.
“You must think you’re still the little princess in her father’s castle. I don’t think that water did enough to wake you up. You’re still dreaming
I sat there in confusion, wondering where she was going with all of this. All I asked for was a simple bath. What was so wrong with that?
“If you don’t stand up this instant, I’ll smack this bucket on that empty skull of yours!” she spat in utter disgust.
Reflexively, I jumped to my feet, shivering at the thought of violence. I was more a lover than a fighter, personally. I abhorred every form of violence. And I wasn’t about to let someone twice my size hit me.
“Now, walk,” she said, stressing every word through her teeth.
I swallowed hard, flushing my fear down my throat Slowly, I inched out of the door. She hissed behind me, causing me to shudder with fear. When she brushed past me, I almost jumped out of my skin.
“Follow me,” she said behind her shoulders.
I obliged, walking carefully behind her. It felt like we were going through a dark tunnel, without any light at the end of it. After an excruciatingly silent walk, we made a turn, and busted into open air.
My eyes blinked as it adjusted to the light of the day. I gasped internally when my eyes studied the scenery surrounding me. It was actually a beautiful pack, all things considered.
Its grass was green, the birds chirped beautifully, and the smell of flowers filled the air. So much in contrast with the smell of manliness my pack offered.
I took a deep breath, hoping to enjoy my day, despite the bleakness I felt. The scenery also did a good job in making the walk bearable. My feet were starting to hurt, because it felt like we would never stop.
It also didn’t help that it was just the two of us on the road. As if the people of the pack didn’t wake up early.
She took another turn, and I was right around with her. This time, we came across one person who bowed when they saw her. Aside from that action, nothing else was communicated.
It made me realize she was a pretty important person in the pack.
More and more people began to walk past us. They all bowed to her, and sneered at me. I didn’t understand what I had done. wrong to these people to have them so mad at me.
I decided to lower my head, to avoid their menacing gaze.
We made one last turn and heard a loud howl. She paused on her track, but I didn’t notice on time and continued past her. I suddenly bumped into a hard surface that made my skin jump, but in excitement.
“Kneel and apologize!” a voice screamed behind the strong surface, as I took a step back, and lifted my head.
I gasped, when I saw Alpha Rowan standing before me. I finally understood my body’s strange reaction. It was because of him.

“Apologize!” the voice screamed again.
I didn’t understand what it was talking about, or if it was directing his screams to me. I opened my mouth to ask some. questions when I felt someone pull my hair from behind and kicked me to the ground.
“Apologize to your alpha!”
I felt a slicing pain through
my spine, as heavy boots stepped on my back.
