I’m afraid you won’t live to see that day.
The next morning, Lily, who usually loved to sleep in, was nowhere to be seen.
An uninvited guest sat in the living room.
Derek sat there, drenched in sweat, his black T–shirt unchanged for who knows how long, emitting a strange odor.
Seeing me come out, he paused in the act of wiping sweat with his rolled–up shirt, his eyes gleaming.
Just like in my previous life, I pulled Lily aside to ask about the breakup. She put her hands on her hips and shouted at me: “Derek knows he was wrong. He said he didn’t mean to hit me. If it weren’t for those people, why would he take his anger out on me? Besides, he came to apologize in person. What more do you want?”
“Do you want to see us break up so badly?”
“If you drive him away, I’ll kill myself. Emma, you heartless beast, you want your own sister dead.”
After wailing a couple of times, she pushed past me and fawned over Derek, wiping his sweat and bringing him water.
Noticing Derek’s gaze fixed on me, Lily pushed me away in displeasure.
“What are you standing there for? Go make breakfast.”
Then she took out the durian she had carefully saved last night from the fridge.
“Honey, eat this first to tide you over.”
Instead of glaring at Derek and trying to make him leave like I did in my previous life, I went to the kitchen.
I usually had a habit of stocking up, so my fridge wasn’t short on ingredients.
In my previous life, because of my stockpile, the three of us managed to hold out for quite a long time.
Lily and her boyfriend Derek ate and drank extravagantly at my place every day, refusing to even go out. Only when the food ran out did they realize the seriousness of the situation.
I calculated how to use everything up in two or three days, not wasting my time putting on this show with them.
So I cooked eight or nine dishes and added a few instant canned foods.
Lily was very satisfied seeing how lavish the meal was, placing all the meat dishes in front of Derek, constantly putting food on his plate.
After they had eaten and drunk their fill, she had no intention of washing the dishes. Instead, she criticized in my ear: “Emma, we don’t like leftovers. Remember to throw away everything that’s left.”
“Next time, make it just as lavish.”
Hearing her words, I was extremely pleased.
I hope you won’t regret it in the next few days.

The weather was getting hotter. When I came out of the kitchen, I was drenched in sweat.
After Lily finished her shower, she came to talk to me about sleeping arrangements. Her expression was just as entitled as in my previous
life.
“The spare room is too small for Derek and me, and there’s no air conditioning. Emma, why don’t you sleep in the spare room?”
“You know your brother–in–law and I are most afraid of the heat. It wouldn’t be good if we got heatstroke.”
With that, she slammed the door shut, not giving me a chance to speak.
After I finished my shower, Lily sent me a text message saying she wanted to eat shrimp tomorrow and told me to buy some early.
I was about to reply when I heard a noise from the direction of the door.
I closed my eyes, pretending to be asleep.
There was a sharp intake of breath, then the movement quieted down.
I turned on the light to see faint bloodstains on the floor, and one of the mousetraps I had set was missing.
A cold smile played on my lips. In my previous life, it was after I showered that Derek had snuck into my room.
He had tried to take advantage of me, and my screams had brought Lily running.
