Scarlet said, “Boss, there are no guards inside, so it must be booby–trapped. We can’t be careless. Once we go in, stay close behind me, okay?”
Felicia chuckled and nodded. “Got it.”
Right at that moment, the five red dots on the tablet were getting closer together. Soon, a bird call echoed from the jungle, and the five mercenaries, including Dig Guy, appeared.
“Boss!” they all greeted with lowered voices as they moved silently toward Felicia.
After Felicia briefly explained the situation inside, the team understood, and Big Guy led the way. He entered the bomb shelter first. Next came the other two mercenaries, followed by Scarlet and Felicia. They were then followed by the last two mercenaries at the rear to provide security and guard against threats.
They made their way smoothly to the large iron door.
Big Guy was about to forcefully tear it down when Scarlet stepped forward, nudged him aside, and pulled a thin wire from her hair to begin fiddling with the lock. With a click, the lock opened.
Scarlet raised her eyebrows at Felicia, signaling that she deserved praise. Felicia gave her a thumbs–up.
The group entered smoothly,
What they saw was a pitch–black passage, empty and desolate, with nothing inside.
Big Guy, who had been ready for a fight, shone his flashlight around and found that it was just a regular bomb shelter with nothing inside.
Was that it?
Big Guy shook his head and pressed forward.
Felicia glanced at the ceiling and the surrounding walls. With her keen senses, she immediately noticed something and quickly shouted, “Fall backd”
Big Guy, who had already stepped forward, paused at the sound of her warming. He was about to pull his foot back, but it was too late. A mechanism overhead was triggered, and three sharp spikes shot toward his body.
If they hit, he’d be pierced straight through.
At a height of six foot three, Big Guy’s large, muscular body was fast for his size. In an unbelievable twist, he contorted his body, and the three spikes barely grazed his clothes before embedding themselves into the wall.
Everyone let out a collective sigh of relief.
Big Guy exhaled deeply and turned to Felicia. “That was way too close. Thanks for the warning, boss. I almost died.”
Though he was saying that it was a close call, there was an unmistakable excitement in his voice
Felicia’s eyes twitched. She now understood why Monkey had gone missing. These mercenaries, with their muscles and simple minds, were all about daring and charging ahead. They weren’t afraid of danger. Instead, they feared the lack of danger!
People with such a personality had their advantages. They would get things done, but the drawbacks were also obvious. They were too reckless and overconfident.
Felicia had already decided that once this mission was over, she’d transfer the remaining payment and disband them on the spot.
She sighed and picked up the mobile surveillance camera on the ground. She then tossed it forward as if throwing a bowling ball.
As the camera rolled with a thud, several more mechanisms activated above them. This time, the traps were even more lethal–infrared lasers!
“Get down!” Felicia shouted, pressing Scarlet’s head down. They both dropped to the ground.
A loud noise came from behind them as the powerful infrared laser device sliced over the iron door, leaving a deep gash.
