She tried to subtly ask Michael, but he danced around the topic and remained tight–lipped.
Frustrated by her inability to extract any information from him, Abigail decided not to press further. Once the signing was completed, she personally escorted the Envision Group representatives downstairs.
After returning to her office, she headed straight to the project
team.
As she walked in, a shower of confetti rained down from above.
Her colleagues formed a semicircle and burst into applause.
“Awesome! We finally landed the project! Ms. Winchester, you’re amazing!”
They were all excited to have successfully won this project.
Abigail found herself laughing along with them. After clapping her hands to quiet them down, she said, “Thanks to everyone’s hard work. Let’s celebrate with dinner after work tonight–my
treat!”
“Oh, yeah!”
“Hooray!”

Caroline, who happened to be passing by, watched the scene. unfold with clenched fists around her coffee cup, her expression darkening.
She thought, “Abigail, why did you have to come back?
All this praise and recognition should have been mine!”
After organizing dinner plans with Olivia, Abigail left her office and made her way to the break room.
Just as she reached the door, Caroline suddenly stepped out to block her path.
Not wanting to engage, Abigail tried to sidestep her, but Caroline moved in her way again.
“Do you need something?” Abigail asked, her tone flat.
Caroline felt annoyed at Abigail’s aloofness and nonchalant demeanor.
To her, it reeked of hypocrisy.
Grinding her teeth, Caroline lowered her voice and scoffed, “Abigail, how can you be so shameless?”
Abigail raised an eyebrow, her expression cold.

Caroline pressed on, “You know you’re no longer part of the Winchester family, yet you still cling to my position. Don’t you have any self–respect?”
With a slight shake of her head, Abigail chuckled.
Although she didn’t say a word, to Caroline, it felt like an avalanche of scorn.
Caroline’s expression darkened further. “What’s so funny? You’d better leave voluntarily, or you’ll be the one who ends up embarrassed!”
Abigail smirked, her eyes glinting with sarcasm. “And who are you to say that?
“The lady of the Winchester family?
“Or perhaps the manager of Winchester Group?
“Caroline, do you really think a bit of bloodline is enough to secure your place in the Winchester family?”
The Winchester family was far more complex than Caroline imagined.
It was a dangerous arena. Those who naively tried to grab hold of others‘ resources often ended up being slaughtered.
The Winchester Group was not just James‘ personal enterprise; it was a family business.
Chapter 19 Playing the Victim- James was merely the acting chairman.
To complicate things, he had an illegitimate child.

Caroline failed to grasp the implications of Abigail’s words. Instead, interpreting them as condescension, she retorted, “If someone like you can make it, then so can I!”
Amused by her ignorance, Abigail shrugged, deciding she didn’t want to engage further.
Caroline’s gaze shifted to a figure approaching nearby, and suddenly, she stepped closer, lowering her voice in a menacing tone, “Abigail, if you’re so intent on staying here, don’t blame me for being heartless!”
Caroline got too close, and just as Abigail was about to step back, she saw Caroline grab the coffee cup beside her.
The hot coffee splashed across Caroline’s arm, prompting her to cry out, “Abigail, I just wanted to discuss work experience with you! If you don’t want to talk, that’s fine, but why did you spill it on me?”
Completely bewildered, Abigail turned as someone grabbed her shoulders, instinctively looking back.
The next second, a sharp slap landed across her face.
