Chapter 46 Standing up for Abigail
When Abigail’s expression darkened, Caroline couldn’t help but feel a flicker of delight in her heart. She thought smugly, “Looks like Abigail isn’t as unbothered as she pretends to be.”
Caroline’s smile grew even softer and more graceful as she said. gently, “I never knew Felix could cook, let alone how good he might be at it. Abigail, why don’t you help me taste it together?”
Caroline was well aware that Felix had never once cooked for Abigail. On the contrary, it was always Abigail tirelessly preparing meals for him, time and time again. This invitation to “taste together” was just a calculated move to make Abigail feel awful.
Olivia rolled her eyes, unable to contain her irritation, thinking, “Caroline’s got some nerve. Snatching someone’s fiancé and then rubbing it in their face? Who does she think she’s fooling?”
Just as Olivia was about to step in and defend Abigail, Abigail beat her to it, speaking coolly, “Since it’s prepared for you, enjoy it yourself. I’ll grab something from the cafeteria instead.”
As Abigail spoke, her gaze swept over the little bear sticker on the food box in Caroline’s hands. Her lips curled into a mocking. smirk. Caroline, however, assumed Abigail was faking her indifference, feeling even more triumphant and ready to throw in another jab.

Before Caroline could, the receptionist burst into the office, her high heels clicking against the floor, and announced excitedly, “Ms. Winchester, there’s someone at the front desk claiming to be your husband, and he’s here to deliver lunch.” Caroline froze mid–smirk, her face stiffening.
Abigail didn’t take it seriously at first, thinking the receptionist was just joking around. She raised a brow and asked, “Are you sure he’s my husband? What does he look like?”
Her mind churned as she tried to make sense of it, pondering, “Marcus‘ company is so far from here; there’s no way he’d come all this way just to bring me lunch. And I didn’t even ask him
lo.”
The receptionist’s eyes practically sparkled as she replied, “He’s tall, with muscular legs, and insanely handsome. Honestly, his face puts celebrities to shame. He looks like he walked straight out of a comic book–such a gentleman. I swear, just looking at him made my heart race, my face blush, and my legs feel weak. Oh, and he’s carrying several food boxes. Oh, Ms. Winchester, you’re so lucky.”
As someone who worked at the front desk, she had seen plenty of attractive men, but none like Abigail’s husband. One glance at him, and she felt like the world was suddenly worth living in.
Abigail muttered under her breath, “Could it really be him?” Warmth bloomed in her chest as she dismissed her doubts, hastily getting up and rushing to the door.
Caroline bit her lip and glared at the receptionist in frustration,

muttering under her breath, “Brown–noser.” Her thoughts, however, betrayed her jealousy: “So what if Abigail snagged herself a boy toy? There’s no way he’s as amazing as she’s making him out to be.”

The receptionist had never been a fan of Caroline, who always acted high and mighty. When Caroline snapped at her out of nowhere, she retorted immediately, “Ms. Yannis, if you don’t believe me, go check yourself. I’m not the type to kiss up to anyone.” Without waiting for Caroline’s reaction, she turned on her heel and went back to her desk.
Caroline, fuming, stomped her foot and stormed out. “I want to see for myself just how impressive Abigail’s husband really is,” she thought.
Meanwhile, Abigail walked out of the office, passed by the pantry, and continued down a long hallway. At the reception desk near the elevator, she spotted Marcus. His tall, muscular figure stood out sharply.
He was dressed in a deep navy shirt paired with tailored silver–gray trousers that outlined his legs. His sharp brows, high nose bridge, and smooth side profile radiated elegance and refinement.
Though Marcus was merely standing there, he exuded an air of icy authority, a presence so commanding it felt almost invasive. His bearing was extraordinary, and his subtle frown carried the sharpness of someone accustomed to power–an air that made. others hesitate to approach. With his looks and demeanor, he could easily pass as the heir to a prominent family.

The moment he saw her, his brows relaxed, and a soft smile. spread across his face. That smile, warm as sunlight melting ice, dissolved any trace of aloofness or distance.
“Abigail,” Marcus called her name in his deep, rich voice, the tone as intimate as a lover’s whisper.
Thud, thud, thud–Abigail swore she could hear her heart pounding wildly. Fighting to stay composed, she forced a calm smile. “What brings you here?”
Marcus‘ face remained gentle, his smile like a spring breeze. In a warm tone, he explained, “You skipped breakfast this morning. I was worried you’d be too busy working and forget to eat, so I brought you lunch.”
Looking at this considerate man standing before her, Abigail felt a part of her heart slowly give way.
“Is this what married life is supposed to be? Having someone worrying about whether I’ve eaten, and going out of their way to bring me food. Even if his intentions weren’t entirely pure when we had our flash marriage… does it really matter?” she mused.
