As she leaned in closer, a faint scent of orchids wafted off her, subtle but intoxicating. Marcus lowered his gaze to her bright, happy eyes and smiled faintly, “Happy, huh? Is it because I brought you lunch or because you enjoyed seeing someone you don’t like get put in their place?”
Abigail tilted her head, her high ponytail bouncing slightly ast she replied without hesitation, “Both.”
“In that case,” Marcus said with a low, deliberate tone, his eyes brimming with warmth. “Can the hero ask for a little reward?”
One look at him and Abigail’s heart began to race uncontrollably. Her breath hitched, her voice trembling slightly as she asked, “What kind of reward are you thinking of?”
As they spoke, the two stepped into the elevator, one after the other. Just as the doors slid shut, Abigail was about to continue the conversation when she suddenly felt a strong, firm hand wrap around her waist.
Marcus‘ hand gripped her tightly, pinning her between the cold elevator wall and his warm, broad chest. Before she could process what was happening, his lips found hers, leaving her frozen in shock, her eyes flying open.

Without waiting for Abigail to react, Marcus deepened the kiss. as though he wanted to devour her whole. His strong hand supported her waist, ensuring she wouldn’t collapse as her legs grew weak. They were so close that every subtle movement and reaction from one could be felt by the other.
Abigail let out a muffled hum, her soft hands pressing against Marcus‘ chest. Beneath her palms, she could feel the heat radiating from his firm, toned chest muscles. It was as if the warmth burned her, sending shivers through her entire body.
Marcus‘ hands on her lower back gently kneaded in what felt like a soothing gesture, but the intensity of his kiss only increased. As she started to feel breathless, she began to slap his chest lightly, her peripheral vision catching sight of the elevator numbers descending.
Just then, ding–the elevator stopped on the sixth floor. Abigail panicked internally, “Oh no, it’s rush hour. There’s definitely someone waiting outside. If we get caught like this…”
A whimper escaped her lips as she pushed harder against Marcus‘ chest. Just when she thought she’d embarrass herself, he broke the kiss. The moment the elevator doors opened, they both took a small step back.
Before Abigail could breathe a sigh of relief, a crowd of people poured into the elevator. Glancing down at her flushed face and

slightly swollen lips, Marcus‘ arm shot out, shielding her from the surrounding throng. His possessive demeanor silently declared: This beauty is for my eyes only.
Marcus‘ Adam’s apple bobbed slightly as he inhaled, and his gaze still carried traces of lingering desire. Abigail only needed to glance at him to feel her face heat up and her heart race, secretly touched by his instinctive thoughtfulness.
It didn’t take long for her to remember what she had overheard the night before. He was marrying her for the sake of the child, and that kiss? It was just a reward, nothing more. She bit her lip and steadied herself, letting a bit of rationality creep back in.
The elevator quickly arrived at the second floor. They found a table in the cafeteria and sat down. Marcus placed the food containers he’d brought on the table one by one. As expected, all the dishes were Abigail’s favorites.
After setting everything up, he began peeling shrimp for Abigail as if it were second nature. Neither of them mentioned the earlier heated kiss that had left them both flustered.
Although Marcus appeared calm, his gaze stayed fixed on Abigail. Between peeling shrimp, handing her napkins, and even wiping a bit of soup from the corner of her lips, his attention to detail was obvious.
At a nearby table, a young couple watched the scene unfold. The girl couldn’t help but tug her boyfriend’s ear. “Look at him. So considerate. Why can’t you learn from him?” she complained.

Abigail had just overheard a bit of the conversation and was about to laugh when Marcus suddenly leaned over the table, propping himself up with one hand. His face moved closer as he asked, in a low, magnetic voice, “Honey, do you want me to feed you?”
His voice was so deep and seductive that it sent a shiver down Abigail’s spine, like a jolt of electricity. Boom–the blush that had just faded from her cheeks surged back with full force, turning even the tips of her ears bright red. Embarrassed, she mumbled, “Just eat your own food. I’m not a kid, you know…”
“I see.” Marcus‘ gaze dropped slightly as if disappointed. Abigail glanced at him out of the corner of her eye and discreetly pinched her burning earlobe.
Halfway through the meal, Marcus suddenly received a phone call. Whatever the person on the other end said caused his expression to darken slightly. Abigail looked at him with concern, asking, “What’s wrong?”
Marcus hesitated before answering, his tone carrying a trace of guilt, “Something’s come up at work. I might have to leave early.”
Abigail’s eyes shifted to the dishes in front of him, her focus on one thing. “Did you eat enough?”
Marcus nodded. “I’m good. But I’m breaking my promise–I

can’t finish this meal with you.”
Abigail gave him a small smile. “It’s fine. Work is important. Go handle it. If you’re super busy, you don’t have to go out of your way to meet me like this. I don’t want you overworking yourself.”
Marcus neither agreed nor disagreed. Instead, he simply reminded her to eat well before grabbing his things and heading
out.
After finishing her meal, Abigail packed up the lunchbox, intending to bring it back to her office before taking it home. after work. While waiting for the elevator in the shaft, she unexpectedly spotted Caroline again.
