Chapter 80 Cheap Ride

The chatter erupted like wildfire after Abigail entered the office to take her bag.
One of Abigail’s colleagues said, “That’s Ms. Winchester’s husband! Remember the last time he came by to drop off lunch? He is tall, handsome, and way more charming than any celebrity!”
Hearing this, many people exchanged envious looks.
“Ms. Winchester is living the dream,” someone sighed. “Lunch deliveries, personal pickups–she’s being treated like a princess.”
Caroline was jealous. She clenched her teeth and muttered sourly, “So what if he dotes on her? He’s still broke.” She thought, “What good is a handsome face when you can’t even afford a meal?”
The other colleagues exchanged awkward glances and quickly found excuses to leave.
Feeling ignored, Caroline stomped in frustration and marched straight after Abigail. She was determined to see what kind of flashy car Abigail’s pretty boy could afford.
Abigail ran into several colleagues in the elevator, and the group was chatting and laughing together. But Caroline squeezed her

way in just as the doors were closing. The lively banter came to a screeching halt.
Caroline noticed the shift but quickly shrugged off the awkwardness. She raised her chin, feigning confidence as though nothing had happened.
Soon, the elevator reached the first floor.
Everyone swiped their badges and exited the building, only to be greeted by the sight of a luxury car parked at the curb. Leaning casually against it was a stunning man radiating sophistication.
“Look! That’s Ms. Winchester’s husband,” someone whispered excitedly. “I told you he’s a total heartthrob, didn’t I?”
Another replied, “Heartthrob? He’s on another level! Have you ever seen anyone make a plain white shirt look that refined? He is absolutely stunning.”
One said, “Ms. Winchester is so lucky.”
When Marcus spotted Abigail coming out, he immediately approached her, naturally taking the bag from her hand. He asked, “Tired?”
Abigail shook her head, smiling. It was obvious that Caroline’s earlier remarks hadn’t ruffled her in the slightest.
Marcus smiled back at Abigail. “I’ll cook something nice for you tonight. What do you feel like eating? We can pick up some groceries together later.”

Abigail thought about it for a moment, then shook her head in embarrassment. “Hmm… I’m not sure yet. How about we decide when we get there?”
“Whatever you want,” Marcus replied.
The two carried on chatting casually, oblivious to everyone around them. Their affectionate interaction only fueled the envy of those watching.
When they reached the car, Marcus turned back and greeted Abigail’s colleagues, even offering, “We live on Seabreeze Road. If anyone’s headed that way, we can give you a lift.”
The others quickly waved their hands, politely declining. “No, it’s fine. We’ll just grab a taxi.” No one wanted to be the awkward third wheel.
However, they all noticed how Marcus made it a point to ask everyone except Caroline.
Abigail nearly burst out laughing. She knew Marcus was subtly standing up for her, and the gesture left her both touched and secretly delighted.
Once Abigail and Marcus got in the car and drove off, the group couldn’t hold back their sighs of admiration.
One of the colleagues said, “Ms. Winchester is so lucky. She has a successful career and a caring and considerate husband.”

The comment landed squarely on Caroline’s sore spot. She clenched her teeth in frustration and muttered bitterly, “It’s just a car worth a measly hundred grand. What’s there to brag about?”
Everyone was speechless at Caroline’s jealousy. Still, thinking about what had just happened to Lena, no one dared to argue with her except for one male colleague, who clearly had enough of her attitude.
The male colleague said, “That car isn’t just some cheap ride. SUVS from that brand don’t go for less than a million dollars.
“Besides the exterior, every part under the hood has been custom–modified. The engine alone is worth at least two or three million dollars.
“I also noticed the car’s lightning–fast acceleration, which means the transmission has been upgraded. That kind of performance alone makes the transmission worth at least a million dollars.”
In other words, the engine and transmission upgrades alone were worth four to five million dollars. And that wasn’t even counting the hidden modifications he couldn’t identify.
Caroline was at a loss for words.
