Chapter 88 Flagship Item

Caroline said, “This dress looks really expensive. You said you never took a penny from the Winchester family, so where did you get the money to buy such an expensive gown?”
A few days ago, when Caroline and Natalia went to the Flor headquarters to order custom dresses, Caroline was certain she had never seen this particular style among Flor’s ready–made collections. Could Abigail be wearing a knockoff?
The crowd’s attention shifted from the Winchester family’s dirty laundry to Abigail’s dress.
One of the guests said, “Now that you mention it, I’ve never seen this dress at Flor either. Rene, have you seen it?”
Rene, from a more prestigious family and the only daughter who was extremely spoiled, was said to be given the chance to pick from Flor’s new collections before they even hit the market.
Rene arrogantly crossed her arms, her gaze filled with disdain. She deliberately said, “No, I haven’t seen it. Maybe my family isn’t rich enough to access this level of dress.
Laughter spread through the group.
Danna, always one to follow the crowd, immediately smiled, “Rene, if your family isn’t rich enough, then I guess we’re all
poor!”

One asked, “So, Rene hasn’t seen this dress either? Is this really Flor’s new collection? Could it be a fake?”
Another person chimed in, “No way, right? After all, she’s been with the Winchester family for over 20 years. Even if she’s wearing something cheaper, she wouldn’t wear fake stuff. How Lacky.”
One person said, “You don’t know how poor her real family is. I heard her dad’s a taxi driver. A family like that can’t keep up with the luxury she’s used to after twenty–something years.”
Another added, “Born in a humble family, and here she is, wearing a fake dress at such a high–class event. She really doesn’t belong here.”
Watching Abigail publicly humiliated, Caroline couldn’t have felt more smug.
Natalia’s expression shifted. She was embarrassed and displeased. She shot Abigail a glare and said, “Abigail, when did you become so vain?”
Abigail glanced at Natalia coldly but didn’t respond.
Natalia sighed, “If you couldn’t afford to custom a dress, you could have told me. I have plenty of Flor gowns in my closet, many of them barely worn. You could have worn one of those. There’s no need to wear fake stuff and let others think the Winchester family mistreated you!”

Natalia had once considered giving Abigail some money, but Abigail was stubborn. She refused to accept it, determined to prove herself. Yet now she was wearing a fake gown to an event like this, embarrassing them all.
Abigail usually didn’t care about other people’s opinions. After all, she had been the center of gossip all her life. If these people looked down on her, Abigail couldn’t care less. She didn’t need to associate with them.
But Natalia was different. Natalia had once been someone Abigail cared for deeply, someone she’d tried to protect and love.
Abigail had always believed that sincerity would be met with sincerity, but all she had received from Natalia was disappointment, again and again. She had truly had enough. The last shred of affection vanished.
Abigail sneered, extending her hand toward Natalia. “Mrs. Winchester, if I’m not mistaken, I bought all those gowns in your closet. If you’re really so generous, why don’t you just give me the cash for them now?”
Natalia was speechless. She didn’t expect Abigail to say something like that. Her face turned grim.
Caroline stepped forward, her tone hard as steel. “If we’re going to keep track of these things, then my parents‘ spending on you over the years would add up to even more. When do you plan on paying that back?”

Faced with Caroline’s aggressive stance, Abigail merely chuckled. “You might want to have them carefully calculate the profits I’ve brought to the group over the past two years compared to how much they’ve invested in me. Who do you think has contributed more? Are they brave enough to do that math?”
Even James‘ face shifted slightly at Abigail’s words. He thought, “Abigail had indeed been the one to save the Winchester Group, and that was a debt that couldn’t easily be settled.”
Caroline ground her teeth in frustration, unwilling to give Abigail the upper hand again. She was about to speak but was interrupted by Natalia.
“Abigail, anyhow, the fact that you’re wearing a knockoff today is wrong! I’ve always taught you to be honest. How could you resort to faking things just for appearances?”
Abigail raised an eyebrow, scoffing, “Whether my dress is real or a knockoff is none of your business. Maybe you should focus on your daughter instead.”
Natalia shook her head in disappointment, about to say more when someone said, “I don’t think this dress looks like a
knockoff. What kind of knockoff would look more luxurious than haute couture?”
At this, the hall fell into an awkward silence.
After a moment, someone murmured, “Maybe it’s just too well–made.”

Another person replied, “Well, it doesn’t look like a dress that’s better than haute couture. The only thing more expensive than haute couture from Flor would be their flagship item.”
But everyone knew full well that Abigail couldn’t possibly afford Flor’s flagship item.
One said, “You know, now that you mention it, this dress does resemble Flor’s flagship piece a bit.”
