Chapter 3
Mrs. Davis was still chasing me, blocking the
door. “Mrs. Thompson! You won’t listen! You’re
messing everything up!”
The teachers who had come up behind were
yelling at me for pushing her.
“What do you want, did you not see us push
<
Mrs. Davis down?”
“What do you want? You’re disrupting
everything, if anything happens to the kids, it’s
on you!”
I glared at them. “I’m saving lives! I’m not
disrupting anything. You’re keeping me from
rescuing my son!”
They looked hesitant for a second.
There was still one working security camera,
and I could see Tommy pulling everyone away
from the kitchen. He knew the kitchen was
going to explode and told the teachers. They
were covering their faces and huddled by the
bathroom, near the hallway door.
If we could just put out the fire, they could get
out!
“The kids are running out of time, are you just
gonna let them die?!”
The teachers watched the monitor and started
whispering nervously.
Then, one of them pushed through the group.
“The Chief says we gotta clear everyone out!
It’s too dangerous! No one comes in until they
get more backup!”
“He said someone’s already been getting in the
way!”
They stared at me, blocking the door.
Chief Thompson wouldn’t save our son, and he
wouldn’t let me save him either?!
Mrs. Davis said, “If you run in there and
something happens, who’s gonna be
responsible?”
The teachers grabbed my arms. “The Chief said we can’t let anyone in! It’s for the kids‘ safety!”
<
My hands were shaking.
Tommy didn’t have much time left, and they
were wasting what little he had.
They were killing him.
I tried to explain, “I have a fire safety certification, I’m qualified to fight the fire!”
They wouldn’t listen, they just blocked the door.
I watched the minutes tick by, tears streaming down my face.
I grabbed an extinguisher and charged at them!
I pushed and pulled, but I was losing strength.
“Where’s my kid! Where is he?!” A big man pushed through the crowd!
