Chapter 653
Maurice’s words sounded like a promise.
Felicia was stunned and thought she misheard, Especially since Maurice now had an unreadable look in his eyes
But the next second, he smiled. The comers of his lips curled into an ambiguous smirk as if the promise had been nothing more than a joke. He slipped back into his usual unpredictable demeanor, masking any sincerity he might have had.
Felicia actually felt relieved. So, he wasn’t sick? That was good.
Leaning on Scarlet for support, she got into the car without sparing Maurice another glance.
It was clear she was drawing a boundary
They had never been close. And they had a score to settle on top of that. Being strangers was the best for both of them.
Before long, the car disappeared into the winding mountain road, fading from bright beacons to dimm fireflies until they vanished completely.
Only then did Maurice retract his pace.
His men, who had gone in pursuit, returned one after mother. They reported in hushed voices, “Mr. Glovers, we couldn’t find the man in the black robe. We searched the entire area, but there’s no trace of him.”
Surprisingly, Maurice didn’t fly into a rage. He bummed and then instructed after a pause, “Look into what kind of venomous creature was planted into Felicia…”
He fell silent. Even Felicia didn’t know the answer. How could his useless subordinates possibly figure it out?
Forget L
He changed his mind. “Bring Caesar here. Doesn’t he raise venomous creatures? Have him being his prized collection with him.”
“Yes, Mr. Glovers!” The men assumed Maurice wanted a solution from Caesar None of them questioned it, let alone dared to dely his orders. They immediately set off to carry them out.
The mist in the forest wavered as the wind stirred, but no one heard the murmured words Maurice let slip. His voice was laced with amusement. “You want to cut ties with me? Not achance.”
When Maurice returned to his temporary home, Caesar had already been brought in.
Caesar was an elderly man with a fully white beard. He had previously treated Maurice’s legs but had never been able to achieve significant results.
Maurice got straight to the point, describing Felicia’s condition before finally asking, “What kind of venomous creature can control someone’s body? Is there a cure?
At first, Caesar was perplexed. But his eyes lit up at the mention of the venomous creatures.
It was as if he had finally returned to his area of expertise. His posture straightened, and confidence radiated from him. It was a stark contrast to the nervous and cautious man he had been while failing to heal Maurice’s legs. Now, he was practically glowing with excitement
He rambledon, “To my knowledge, the only venomous creature that can achieve this level of control is the Heart Eater! The Heart Eater is extremely rare. Some people spend decades trying to grow one without success. But if you do manage to raise one, it’s priceless!
“When acthesed, this venomous creature releases a neurotoxin that paralyzes the nervous system and brain. To put it simply, the victim loses consciousness while their body follows.commands given by the person controlling the venomous creature.”
Maurice’s face fell. But his fury wasn’t directed at Caesar, who was passionately explaining
Who the hell would use such a twisted method to target a young woman?
For once, Maurice didn’t interrupt. He let Caesar finish his explanation before asking. “Is there a cure for this?”
