Mia pondered, “No, it has to be a mistake. I must have misheard. I have been coming to the Fitzgerald Villa every week to treat Jaxson. If Mr. Fitzgerald has gotten married, how could I not have caught wind of it?”
Just as she felt relieved, the warmth in Marcus‘ eyes vanished. the moment he ended the call.
When his icy gaze landed on her, it was as though a blade had pierced her heart.
“Mr. Fitzgerald, why are you looking at me like that?” Mia’s voice trembled, betraying her unease. The look in his eyes was terrifying as if he were about to skin her alive.
Marcus‘ expression was cold and unyielding, his tone sharp as he asked, “How exactly did you administer the sedative to Jaxson during his episode?”
The question made Mia’s pupils constrict, and for a brief moment, her panic was evident.
“I… I…” She stammered, unable to give a straightforward
answer.

Mia’s mind raced as she scrambled to find a plausible excuse, but before she could come up with anything, Marcus‘ steely gaze pierced through her lies.
It was just as Abigail had said–this so–called psychologist had been forcibly sedating Jaxson without regard for his well–being.
The thought of Jaxson enduring such treatment behind his back made Marcus‘ chest tighten with guilt and anger. His expression grew even colder. “You won’t be coming back here again,” he said flatly. The finality in his tone made Mia’s heart sink.
Mia thought, “I can’t afford to lose my position. How else can I stay close to Mr. Fitzgerald?”

Marcus let out a mirthless laugh, his tone laced with disdain. Of course, Jaxson calmed down–she sedated him every time. How could he not? All this time, Marcus had assumed that Jaxson had been comforted and reassured by professional care.
“Mr. Fitzgerald, please give me another chance,” Mia pressed on earnestly. “I’ve treated Jaxson for three years. No one knows his condition better than I do. Replacing me suddenly could be a shock to him.”
She thought, “Surely, for the sake of Jaxson, Mr. Fitzgerald will compromise.”
But Marcus‘ lips curved into a mocking smile. “If you truly cared about him, would you not know that forcing sedatives on a child can cause severe psychological trauma?”
Mia’s eyes darted nervously as she tried to justify herself. “But Jaxson gets so agitated during his episodes. Letting him continue like that could harm his health too. What else could I do if not sedate him?”
Marcus didn’t bother to entertain her excuses any longer. His voice was final as he said, “I hired you to help him heal, not to hurt him. Now, will you leave on your own, or do I need to have someone escort you out?”

Before stepping out, Mia cast one last glance at Marcus, but all she saw was his cold, indifferent back. Her fists clenched at her sides, her nails digging into her palms as a wave of hatred swept through her.
She thought, “Mr. Fitzgerald has never questioned my methods before. That phone call must have planted doubt in his mind. My plan has been so close to succeeding. If I’d managed to stay the night at the Fitzgerald Villa, I would’ve had the perfect opportunity to grow closer to him.
But now, everything is ruined. And it’s all because of her. Whoever the woman on the phone is, I swear I won’t let her off
easily.”
After leaving the estate, Mia climbed into her car but didn’t drive away. Instead, she sat there, staring at the sprawling Fitzgerald Villa in the distance. From the moment she first set foot on the property and saw Marcus in the flower–lined. corridor, she had made up her mind–she would become the
mistress of this estate.
She thought, “This is just a temporary setback. There isn’t at better child psychologist in Veridon than me. Sooner or later,
