Chapter 108 Grandma From Hell
Just beyond the waist–high courtyard wall, this old lady in a jacket was up on her tiptoes, jabbing her finger right in some poor guy’s face. She kept poking him while running her mouth.
“You brainless idiot! If it wasn’t for that good–for–nothing girl, you wouldn’t be limping around like this! I did you a favor giving that waste of space away, and you have the nerve to talk back to me?”
Even the usually chill Eddie felt his blood start to boil.
Sure, he could deal with Patricia throwing shade at him all day, but hearing her call his sister a “good–for–nothing” over and over? That crossed a line.
Everyone in the Yannis family knew that Patricia couldn’t stand Caroline. She thought Caroline was just money down the drain.
But Eddie couldn’t forget how tiny and fragile Caroline had been as a kid, the kind of small that just made him want to protect
her.
Plus, their mom had literally given her life bringing Caroline
into this world!
Eddie absolutely adored Caroline, always had, always would.
And seriously, he didn’t think his current mess was any of

He was just dealing with a bad hand life dealt him, simple as
that.
Eddie’s fists clenched as his frame went rigid. His lips pulled down into a scowl. “Grandma, you’re not ‘giving her away‘. You’re literally trying to sell Caroline off!”
Patricia’s face darkened as her voice went straight to shrill. “What do you mean, ‘sell her off‘? It’s called a wedding gift!”

The way she could say that like it was totally normal made. Eddie’s blood run cold. “Marriage is supposed to be about choice,” he shot back. “You didn’t even ask what Caroline wanted before you took their money behind her back. Well, I’m not letting this happen!”
“You’re not letting it happen?” Patricia let out a harsh laugh. “Like you get a say in this? Did you seriously think I came here for your permission?”
After all this back–and–forth, seeing Eddie just standing there like a statue made Patricia’s temple throb. She finally lost it, her voice rising to a screech.
“Just tell me where Caroline’s hiding! She can run all she wants, but she can’t escape this. It’s her destiny!”
Eddie was shaking with anger, his breath coming in short bursts. “I won’t tell you. I won’t let you ruin Caroline!”

That defiance only made Patricia angrier. Her face tightened, eyes bulging as she snapped, “You’ve got some nerve! With your father gone. I’m the one in charge of this house.
“I’ve already taken the money. If Caroline wants to marry into that family, great. If not, I’ll drag her there myself if I have to.
“Don’t think you can hide her from me. If worse comes to worst, I’ll report her missing to the police. They’ll find her for sure!”
She’d like to see just how far Caroline could run.
“No need for all that drama.” A cool, composed voice drifted in from the courtyard entrance.
Patricia and Eddie whipped around at the same time.
Adela gave Abigail’s hand a quick pat, signaling her to let go, and then walked straight up to the sharp–tongued Patricia.
“Caroline’s right at Claudia. I’ll give you the address if you’re so eager to track her down. Go ahead. See if she even wants to marry your pick!”
Patricia’s face lit up instantly, pressing for the exact address.
Eddie’s expression darkened as he whispered, “Mom, you can’t do this to Caroline…”
The guy Patricia had in mind for Caroline was basically the neighborhood’s resident party boy, and not in a good way.

He was a total deadbeat, chronic cheater, plus he looked like a straight–up mess, way below Caroline’s league.
If Adela greenlit this match, she might as well be throwing Caroline under the bus.
“Eddie, stay out of this!” Adela shot Eddie a look to keep him quiet and then turned to give Patricia the full address without missing a beat.
Patricia’s face lit up like she’d just won the lottery. “Since you gave me the address, I’m taking that as a green light on this marriage. Once I bring Caroline back, you better not try to stop
us!”
Adela kept her eyes down, her expression completely
unbothered. “Go ahead. If you can convince her, do whatever you want.”
She knew Patricia all too well, all bark and no bite, only tough when she was in her comfort zone.
Caroline had just been caught up in a nasty cheating scandal, getting totally destroyed on social media.
Right now, she had to be at rock bottom.
There was no way Patricia’s visit was going to end well.
