I took a few days off, and went back to college
to visit my previous professor.
When I got there, Professor Lin was teaching
the undergrads.
I waited behind the classroom, and I could hear
her full of passion echoing in the halls.
<
Last time when I was eighteen, I was infected
with this passion, and begged and begged to be
a part of her research group.
She was just getting started with her PhD.
She was young, and had a bright future.
But because she wasn’t famous, the school
didn’t give her enough resources.
After class, I stopped her:
“Professor, I want to join your research group.”
She immediately rejected me.
I explained that I was good at coding, and had
studied all the classes, and I could do research.
But she still wouldn’t let me in the group:
“Ashley, it’s good that you’re interested in
<
research. But this project is only open to
undergrads.”
So I decided to use my final move:
“Professor Lin, does your research group need
more equipment? I can donate money.”
“Is $100k enough?”
Last time, she started her Al project three years
before I got in.
But it was too expensive, and she didn’t have
enough money.
So in the beginning, the project was on paper.
Until I got into college, Al became a national
priority, and she finally got money.
This time, money isn’t an issue.

My dad’s stock rose 20 times within 6 months.
I took all my lucky money since I was a kid, and told him to invest $50k for me.
So I earned my first $100k in my freshmen year.
Professor Lin was swayed by the money:
“Write these programs, and let me see your skills.”
