Since Logan was unconscious, I told Liam about the cash hidden in the foreclosure property. I had wanted to tell him the first time we met, but I was too upset and forgot.
Liam immediately went to the house with his colleagues but found nothing. I suggested they check my old home. Maybe Logan moved the
money.
When they got there, they found some cash hidden in the old house’s mud wall.
Logan woke up days later, furious that the police seized his money and refusing to cooperate.
Once disch he came straight to my place.
“Nora! Get out here!”
He pounded on the door. I regretted not moving sooner.
When I didn’t open, he somehow got a hammer and broke my
door.
“This place is rented. The door costs eight thousand,” I said as he surveyed my apartment.
“You told the cops, didn’t you!” he shouted, smashing the table in front of me.
“The table’s eighteen thousand,” I replied, watching him expressionlessly.
“Living well on your own, huh? Now that my money’s gone, are you happy?”
He raised the hammer, ready to strike, but was suddenly pushed away by an unseen force.
“Stop, police!” Liam flashed his badge at Logan.
Logan was about to explode.
“Wow! No wonder the police found the old house so fast. Should I call you brother–in–law now, Captain Li?” he sneered, his lecherous gaze darting between Liam and me.
“Brother–in–law, we’re family. Why make things hard for your brother?”
I slapped Logan with all my strength. It felt amazing!
“If you can’t use your mouth, cut it off. If your eyes are sick, gouge them out. Stop embarrassing yourself.”
“You dare hit me?!” Logan’s narrow eyes widened in shock.
In his fury, he grabbed a vase and hurled it at me. Liam quickl
shielded me. The vase shattered, cutting his clothes and drawing blood.
“Assaulting an officer in front of the police?” Liam pinned Logan, who tried to grab the hammer again.
Logan screamed, “Ouch! Police brutality! Police brutality!”
The neighbors had gathered outside. Some helpful ladies with phones refuted him.
“Young man, how dare you twist the truth? Assaulting an officer is a crime!”
“Logan, I’m here for you. If you had cooperated, there might have been a chance. Now you’re coming with me.”
Logan struggled, but he was no match for someone trained. The handcuffs were ready and secured him.
Not long after he left, my parents came rushing to the door, crying and begging Liam. Seeing it was useless, they ignored the pointing fingers, grabbing my neck and crying,
“How can you be so heartless! He’s your brother after all!”
The neighbors couldn’t stand by and intervened.

“We all saw it clearly. Your son struck first! As parents, don’t be so biased!”
“You have such a heartless attitude! He’s your brother, after all!”
The neighbors couldn’t stand by any longer and stepped in to mediate.
“Hey, we all saw it clearly. It was your son who threw the first punch! As parents, you shouldn’t play favorites like this!”
Dad took a drag on his cigarette, his eyes filled with disappointment directed at me.
“Nora, we’ve raised you all these years. We’ve worked hard, even if not perfectly. Your brother hasn’t done anything too unforgivable. Can’t you help him out for our sake?”
Mom released her grip on my hand and knelt in front of me.
“Xiao Jie, I’m begging you. You know Officer Liam, don’t you? Please ask for his help. Logan is so young, and he’s just been injured. How can he handle the hardship of jail?”
