Chapter 46

ROSALIE

I couldn’t stop pacing. The video played on a loop in my head, each replay sharpening my fury. How could he do this to me? The rage was almost as bad as the humiliation. Someone had sent me the video, as if to mock me for trying to make things right with Damien. While I was here cooking, hoping to bridge the gap between us, he was out kissing another woman

My attempt at reconciliation now felt like the most pathetic thing I had ever done. My hands trembled as I clutched my phone, staring at the video yet again. Damien, my husband, with another woman. Kissing her

The clock on the wall ticked

him. My phone sat on the cor antly, its rhythm taunting me. Noon had come and gone, and there was still no sign of

him. My phone sat on the coffee table, silent and useless. Every call I’d made to him had gone straight to voicemail, and each unanswered call chipped away at my composure

Where are you, Damien?I muttered under my breath, pacing yet again. How could you do this to me?”

My fists clenched so tightly that my nails dug into my palms, leaving crescentshaped marks. The pain did nothing to dull the storm inside me. I felt like a fool. A fool for trying so hard to fix something that clearly meant nothing to him

Around 8pm, the sound of keys jingling snapped me out of my thoughts. My head whipped toward the front door as it creaked open. Damien stepped inside, his expression cold and detached, as if he hadn’t just obliterated the last shred of trust I had in him

Finally decided to come home, did you?I said, my voice sharp and dripping with sarcasm

He didn’t answer. Instead, he tossed his keys onto the table and started shrugging off his jacket, completely ignoring me as if 1 were invisible

Don’t act like you don’t know what this is about,I snapped, taking a step closer to him, my voice shaking with restrained

anger

His movements stilled for a moment before he turned to face me. His expression was unreadable, but there was a flicker of annoyance in his eyes. What are you talking about, Rosalie?”

I grabbed my phone from the coffee table, the video already queued up. I shoved it toward him, my hand trembling as 1 held it out. This,I hissed. Someone sent me this, Damien. Care to explain?”

His gaze dropped to the screen, and for a fleeting moment, I thought I saw guilt flash across his face. But it was gone as quickly as it came, replaced by an infuriatingly calm mask

Well?I pressed, my voice rising with each word. You’re not even going to deny it?”

He sighed, running a hand through his hair, the motion so casual it made my blood boil. I don’t owe you an explanation, Rosalie.”

The words hit me like a slap. My mouth fell open, disbelief and fury warring within me. You don’t owe me an explanationYou’re my husband! And you think you can just brush this off?I repeated, my voice cracking

You’re overreacting,” he said dismissively, turning his back on me as he walked toward the living room

1 followed him, the heat of my anger fueling every step. Overreacting? Damien, you were kissing another woman! Do you have any idea how humiliating this is for me?”

He stopped abruptly and turned to face me, his eyes cold and piercing. And do you have any idea how humiliating it is for

me to hear you whispering on the phone to someone else?”

my voice rising. I blinked, thrown off by his sudden accusation. What are you talking about?I demanded.

Don’t play dumb, Rosalie,he snapped, his tone sharp and accusing. I heard you. Making plans, weren’t you? Sneaking around behind my back. Making calls to your lover, wanting to leave this marriage behind my back. Think I didn’t hear you! The night before. I came home earlier and happened to over hear your conversation with another man in the kitchen.”

My mouth fell open, the sheer absurdity of his words stealing my breath for a moment. You’re insane,I said, shaking my head. I wasn’t sneaking around. I wasn’t doing anything wrong! I was speaking to a family friend and he was advising me to stick with you, with thisthis hell of a marriage!”

He scoffed, the sound filled with bitterness. Of course, you’d say that. You always have an excuse, don’t you?”

Excuse?I repeated, incredulous. Damien, I’ve been bending over backward to make things right between us! I cooked for you, I waited up all night for you, and this is what I get in return? You kissing someone else and then accusing me of sneaking around?”

He stepped closer, his towering presence intimidating, but I refused to back down. His eyes were blazing with fury, and his voice was low and menacing. Don’t try to play the victim here, Rosalie. You’re not innocent in this.”

I’ve done nothing wrong!I shouted, my voice breaking under the weight of my emotions

Nothing wrong?he repeated, his tone dripping with sarcasm. Do you really take me for a fool? You’re trying to warm up to other men. I’ve seen the signs.”

I stared at him, stunned, Other.. Men?I said, my voice trembling. You kissed a woman Damien!”

That kiss meant nothing,he snapped, his tone dismissive

It sure looked like it meant something!I shot back, my voice laced with venom

His face twisted with anger, and before I could react, he grabbed me by the neck. His grip was firm, not tight enough to hurt, but enough to make my heart race with a mix of fear and rage

“”You don’t get to talk to me like that,he growled, his voice low and dangerous. You think you’re so righteous, don’t you

haven’t been betraying me this whole time.”

Like

you

My breath hitched, and I glared at him, my own anger burning brighter than my fear. Let me go, Damien,” I hissed, struggling against his grip

He held on for a moment longer, his gaze boring into mine, before shoving me back. I stumbled, coughing as I tried to catch my breath, my hands instinctively flying to my neck

You’re pathetic,I spat, my voice trembling but strong enough to convey the depth of my disdain. You’re nothing but ant insecure brute. A madman.”

And you’re a liar,he shot back, his voice filled with venom. A cheating liar.”

I’m not cheating on you!I yelled, my frustration boiling over. I’ve been trying to fix this marriage, and you’re too blind and paranoid to see it!”

Fix it?he sneered, his tone mocking. You’re the one who broke it in the first place.”

Tears stung my eyes, but I refused to let them fall. You’re impossible, Damien. You’ve always been impossible.”

Chapter 46

And you’ve always been a disappointment,he said coldly, the words cutting deeper than any insult he’d thrown at me

before

The tears I’d been holding back spilled over, and I shook my head, my voice breaking as I whispered, I can’t do this anymore.”

He grabbed his jacket and headed for the door without a word, his steps quick and purposeful

Where are you going now?I demanded, my voice shaking with a mix of anger and desperation

Anywhere but here,” he said without looking back, slamming the door behind him

The sound of the door slamming echoed through the house, leaving behind a suffocating silence. I stood there, staring at the closed door, my body trembling with a mix of rage, heartbreak, and exhaustion

Finally, the weight of everything crashed down on me, and I sank to the floor, my knees giving out beneath me. The sobs came hot and relentless, shaking my entire body as I clutched my chest, the pain too overwhelming to bear
