The doorbell chimed, shattering the silence of the late morning. Rosalie glanced up from the book she had been reading, though her eyes hadn’t been focused on the words for some time. With a sigh, she placed the book down on the side table, brushing a stray strand of hair behind her ear.
Who could it be at this hour?
When she opened the door, Liam Hale stood there, a confident smirk plastered across his face. He looked every bit like the polished, charming version of Damien he often pretended to be, but his eyes betrayed something else. There was always an edge to Liam, an air of self–serving arrogance that Rosalie had never liked.
“Liam.” she said, her tone polite but tight. “What a surprise.”
“Rosalie,” he greeted warmly, stepping inside before she could invite him in. His gaze flitted over the foyer and living room as though expecting Damien to appear. “I thought I’d drop by and check on Damien. There’s a project we’ve been discussing, and I thought I’d catch him here.”
Rosalie’s brow furrowed. She crossed her arms over her chest. “You could’ve gone to his office. He’s not home.”

Liam shrugged, leaning casually against the doorframe leading to the living room. “I figured I’d check here first, save myself the trip. Besides…” His smirk widened, his eyes lingering on her. “It’s always nice to see you.”
She straightened her posture, the discomfort crawling over her skin palpable. “Damien’s busy, Liam. If it’s important, you should really speak with him directly.”
“Always so straightforward,” Liam said with a chuckle, though there was something almost sharp beneath his words. “That’s one of the things I’ve always admired about you, Rosalie.”
Her expression hardened. “If there’s nothing else, I’ll let Damien know you stopped.by.”
“Actually…” Liam pushed off the doorframe and stepped into the living room, ignoring her pointed tone. “I wanted to talk to
you.”
Rosalie blinked, confused. “To me? About what?”
He hesitated, his usual bravado faltering for just a moment before he recovered. “You know, I’ve always told you that Damien doesn’t deserve you.”
Her lips parted, stunned at his audacity. “Excuse me?”
“I’m serious, Rosalie,” Liam said, his voice softening as he moved closer. “Damien doesn’t value you the way he should. Look at the man, a video of him kissing another woman is literally out in the internet. Your marriage is a mockery Rosalie. And this is just the beginning of everything. He doesn’t see you for who you truly are, the way I do.”
“Liam, stop,” she said firmly, holding up a hand to put some distance between them. “Whatever you think you’re doing right now, it’s not appropriate. I’m married to Damien.”
“I know. The worst mistake of your life.” Liam said, his jaw tightening briefly before his gaze softened again. “And I’ve hated it every day since. Do you have any idea how hard it’s been for me? Watching you with him, knowing he’s never going to love you the way 1-”
“That’s enough!” Rosalie snapped, her voice cutting through his words like a whip. “You don’t get to come into my home and insult my husband”
“I’m not insulting him, Liam countered, his tone rising in frustration. “I’m just saying he’s not the man for you. You know that. I’ve loved you since high school, Rosalie. I’ve always loved you.”
She took a step back, her arms dropping to her sides as she stared at him in disbelief. “Liam, you can’t say things like that.

Whatever feelings you had for me, they’re in the past. I’m with Damien now. That’s not going to change.”

“But it should,” he said, his voice desperate now. “Rosalie, he’s going to let you down again and again. He’s going to hurt you more often if you don’t leave him. You’ll see more of his true colors eventually, and when you do, you’ll realize you should’ve been with me all along.”
Her stomach churned with disgust. She couldn’t believe he had the nerve to stand there and say these things to her. “Do you hear yourself, Liam? This is insane. You’re talking about your own cousin, your family. And you think this–what you’re doing right now–is going to make me see you differently?”
“I’m just trying to show you the truth,” he said, his voice dropping to a softer tone as he reached out as if to touch her arm.
She stepped back sharply, her glare icy. “Don’t. Touch. Me.”
“Rosalie-”
“No,” she said, her voice shaking with anger now. “I want you to leave. I don’t care what you Damien, but you are not welcome here if you can’t respect it.”

He stared at her for a moment, the frustration and anger clear in his expression. Finally, he exhaled sharply, shaking his head. “Fine. But mark my words, Rosalie. This marriage won’t last. Damien will show you his real self soon, and when he does, you’ll regret not listening to me.”
“I won’t,” she said, her voice cold and unwavering. “Now get out.”
His mouth opened as if to argue further, but he must have seen the resolve in her eyes because he turned and stalked toward the door. Rosalie followed him, her heart pounding as she ensured he left without any further drama.
As the door clicked shut behind him, she leaned against it, her chest heaving as she tried to calm herself. The encounter had shaken her more than she wanted to admit, and the disgust lingered like a bad taste in her mouth.
Liam, meanwhile, stepped into the crisp air outside, muttering curses under his breath as he strode toward his car. The conversation hadn’t gone as he’d hoped, but he wasn’t ready to give up. Rosalie would come around–she had to. It was just a matter of time.
He had just got into his car when his phone buzzed in his pocket. Fishing it out, he glanced at the screen and frowned. Charlotte. He hesitated before answering, knowing she only called when something was wrong.
“What is it, Charlotte?” he asked, sliding into the driver’s seat.
“We have a problem,” her voice came through, tense and hurried.
Liam pinched the bridge of his nose, his patience already wearing thin. “What kind of problem?”
“I’m being blackmailed,” she hissed. “Someone knows I took the video of Damien and his PA.”
“What?” Liam’s tone sharpened, his grip tightening on the steering wheel.
