Chapter 81

I drove like a man possessed, my grip on the steering wheel so tight my knuckles turned white. The anger inside me was boiling over, seething in my veins like molten lava. My mother’s voice, my sister’s mocking words, my uncles‘ self- righteousness–they all echoed in my head, fueling the fire that was already raging.
Divorce Rosalie?
They really thought I would
I pressed my foot harder against the gas pedal, the roar of the engine barely doing anything to drown out the frustration twisting inside me. I shouldn’t have gone to that damn family dinner. I knew exactly how it would turn out. I knew they would try to push their control on me, try to make me bend to their will. But not this time.
Not when it came to Rosalie
They acted like I was some fool blindly clinging to a woman who was ruining me, but they were the ones who refused to see things clearly. It wasn’t Rosalie destroying this family. It was them. Their arrogance. Their obsession with appearances. Their desperate need to control everything, including me.
I gritted my teeth as I pulled into the driveway, barely giving myself time to park properly before shoving the door open and stepping out. My jaw was locked so tight it ached, my blood still running hot with rage.
But as soon as I walked inside, something felt off.
The house was silent. Too silent.
A frown pulled at my brow as I glanced around the living room. Empty. No sign of Rosalie.
I moved further inside, my heart beginning to pound for a completely different reason now. Where the hell was she?
“Rosalie?” I called my voice sharp as I walked toward the dining area.
No response.
I turned toward the kitchen, my irritation spiking as I saw Margaret and Maria walking out of the kitchen, setting plates on the dining table.
“Good evening Mr Hale” They greeted in unison.
“Where is Rosalie?” I demanded, making them freeze mid–step
They exchanged nervous glances before Maria hesitantly stepped forward. “We we don’t know, sir.”
I narrowed my eyes. “What do you mean, you don’t know?”
Margaret swallowed. “She wasn’t home when we got back from the supermarket carlier this evening. We thought she was in her room, but—”
“You thought?” My voice came out in a low, dangerous growl, making them thinch. “You mean to tell me you have no idea
where she went?”
We–we were busy cooking,” Maria stammered, her hands twisting in her apron. “We didn’t-
“Are you both completely useless?” I roared, slamming my fist against the dining table so hard the plates rattled. “You can’t even keep track of one person? One wonum”

Chapter 81
They both flinched, their faces paling
I ran a hand through my hair, breathing heavily. My chest was tight with frustration, my thoughts spiraling into wors scenarios. What if she left? What if something happened to her?
My entire body felt like it was on edge, my temper dangerously close to snapping.
“Get out,” I snapped, my voice clipped. “Both of you.”
Margaret hesitated. “But-
“Now!” I barked.
They both scurried out of the area, their heads down, but I barely noticed. My eyes were fixed on the plates of food th just finished setting on the table, the sight of it only fueling my fury further.
I wasn’t hungry. I was sick with anger.
With a sudden burst of frustration, I grabbed the plates and flipped the dishes off, sending them crashing to the floor.” sound of shattering porcelain filled the room, mixing with Margaret and Maria’s startled gasps from the hallway.
They whimpered in fear, pressing themselves against the wall as they watched me with wide, terrified eyes.
“Sir, please,” Margaret pleaded, her voice shaking. “We didn’t mean-
“Shut up, I snapped, pinching the bridge of my nose as I tried to calm my breathing. “Just shut up.”
They fell silent, trembling.
I exhaled sharply and pulled out my phone, quickly dialing Rosalie’s number. It rang. Once. Twice. But she didn’t pick up
I clenched my jaw, redialing.
Nothing-
Damn it.
I turned toward the door, shoving my phone into my pocket. If she wasn’t answering, then I’d query those damn security guards where my wife was. Heaven help them if they have no clue!
But just as I stepped toward the entrance, the front door swung open.
Rosalie walked in.
She halted mid–step as her eyes darted around the room, taking in the broken plates, the spilled food, the maids cowering i the corner, and then finally–me.
She stiffened
I could see the wariness in her gaze, the way she hesitated before stepping inside fully.
“Damien,” she said cautiously.
I didn’t move,
I just stared at her, my anger still simmering, my mind running wild with too many emotions all at “Where the hell have you been?” My voice was cold, sharp, cutting through the silence like a blade.

Chapter 81
She swallowed hard, her eyes flicking toward me before quickly looking away. “1-1 just went for a walk ”
“A walk,” I repeated slowly, rolling the words on my tongue like they left a bitter taste. And you just happened to leave your phone behind?”
She nodded quickly. “I forgot it.”
I let out a low chuckle, shaking my head. “You’re lying.”
Her breath hitched, her eyes widening in shock. “No, Damien, I’m telling the truth-
“Shut up.” My voice cracked like a whip.
She flinched, but I was already moving. In three long strides, I closed the distance between us, backing her against the wall before she could even think of running.
“You think I’m stupid?” I hissed, looming over her. “You disappear for hours, ignore my calls, and now you’re standing here feeding me bullshit?”
Her lips parted as if she wanted to argue, but I didn’t give her the chance.
“You will never-” my voice dropped lower, colder, deadlier, “-walk out of this house again without my permission.” She blinked up at me, her chest rising and falling quickly. “Damien-
I didn’t let her finish. My hand shot out, fingers wrapping around her throat, forcing her head back against the wall. She gasped, her hands flying up to claw at my wrist.
“You will ask before you leave. You will wait for me to decide if you’re allowed to go anywhere.” I growled, tightening my
dus
Her nails dug into my skin, her breaths coming in short, frantic bursts. Her body trembled beneath my hold, and it only fueled the rage burning through me.
“Damien–stop!” she gasped, her voice strangled, her eyes wild with panic.
I didn’t.
“You think you can do whatever the fuck you want?” I pressed my thumb harder against her throat, cutting off more of her air. “You think you can just walk out to God knows where and come back lying to me?”
She let out a strangled, choked cry, her hands pushing against my chest, her legs kicking out as she struggled. “Stop” “Stop?” I echoed darkly. “Did you stop when you ignored my calls? When you lied to my fucking face just now?”
Her lips parted, but no sound came out. Her face was turning red, her body trembling violently.
“You are mine,” I said slowly, my voice dripping with venom. “And you don’t fucking move unless I allow it. Do you understand?”
Her eyes were glossy, panic swimming in them. She gasped again, her nails biting deeper into my skin.
I didn’t loosen my grip. Not yet.
I wanted her to feel it. To understand.
Then, finally, I let go.

She collapsed against the wall, sucking in desperate gulps of air, one hand flying to her throat as she coughed violently.
I straightened, rolling my shoulders, my pulse still thundering with raw fury.
She lifted her head, her lips trembling as she glared up at me, fire and fear warring in her eyes.
“What the hell is wrong with you?” she rasped.
I ignored her.

“You will not leave this house without my permission again.” My voice was ice, final, absolute. “Do you understand me?”
She let out a breathless, shaky laugh, disbelief painting her features. “Are you insane? Is this marriage or a fucking prison?”
I turned away without answering, heading for the stairs, my blood still burning, my jaw clenched so tight it hurt.
“Damien!” she yelled after me, but I didn’t stop.
I didn’t look back. I kept walking, taking the stairs two at a time, leaving her standing there with her unanswered questions.
