I kept crying the whole time.
At that moment, I was starting to regret everything. I regretted meeting Kevin, and I definitely regretted letting all of this happen. What I regretted more was the fact that I had gotten into a fight with my dad before my demise.
Kevin and I had been dating for so many years, yet he refused to marry me. My dad advised me to break up with Kevin. Because of that, I fought with him and Mom.
My parents would never harm me. I was the one who harmed myself.
As I watched my parents‘ hunched silhouettes supporting each other while walking away from us, I felt nothing but hatred. I hated Kevin and Daniel, but I hated myself more.
Meanwhile, Kevin just closed the door. He thought for a moment, his brows already knitted into a frown. Finally, he called me.
As usual, the call didn’t go through. So, Kevin directed his voice message to the automated message
inbox.
“Michelle, can you stop throwing your damn tantrum? Your parents are already this old, yet they have to spend their days worrying about you! Do you even have a conscience?”
Once Kevin ended the call, he traveled back to the police station. The moment he strode into the building. he bumped into William right away.
William told him that the men who were posted at Daniel’s home claimed that Daniel had yet to go home
Kevin shook his head, “Something’s definitely off with that guy. If there’s nothing wrong with him, why isn’t he going home at all?”
William replied, “Precisely. That’s why we’ve listed Daniel as our main suspect. We’re now actively pursuing him in the city.”
Kev sighed opce again before asking William, “Did anyone lodge a missing person’s report about a missing daughter?”
William shook his head. “There were a few families who did that. I asked them to come over and claim the body, but they all said that it wasn’t their daughter.”
Kevin frowned instantly. “Arresting Daniel should be our priority for now. After all, the truth will be revealed once we get our hands on him.”
At that moment, a police officer rushed toward them. “An elderly couple has lodged a report! They claimed the victim’s characteristics matched their daughter’s! Should I bring them into the forensic laboratory and let them look at the body?”
William nodded. “Bring them in.”
Five minutes later, a female police officer showed up with my parents.
Kevin was startled to see them at first. A look of dissatisfaction soon appeared on his face.

“What are you doing here? Can you please not disrupt the investigation? Once I’ve wrapped up this case, I’ll tell your daughter to return to you.”

My mom cried while shaking her head. “Kevin, do you know that mothers always share an innate bond with their children? My heart is aching so much! That means something must have happened to my daughter!”
I wailed in anguish from behind, yet there was nothing I could do. At that moment, I hoped that the truth would never come to light. I’d prefer it if my parents could live out their lives hoping that I’d return to them someday.
Kevin couldn’t convince my parents to leave, so he was forced to take them to the forensic laboratory.
Of course, he refused to believe that I was the dead body in the forensic laboratory. After all, he had personally conducted an autopsy on that body. He merely thought that I had chosen to go into hiding because I was throwing a tantrum.
The moment my mom saw the body on the surgical table, she fainted on the spot.
My dad could only approach my body while trembling visibly. He took my hand while wailing. “This is my daughter! I’d always recognize her no matter what happened to her!”
Kevin dropped his cigarette when he heard my dad’s exclaims. There were a few police officers crowding at the forensic laboratory’s doorway, so he shoved them away immediately.
“Who did you say this is?” Kevin’s hands began trembling slightly as he stared at my body in disbelief.
My dad just ignored him. All he did was stare at me. “Michelle, how did you become like this?”
The police officers couldn’t bear to see my parents looking like this. They were quick to escort them out of the forensic laboratory.
I wanted to follow them, but I was forced to stay with Kevin.
Kevin’s hands kept trembling the whole time. He stared at my body with bloodshot eyes.
“M_nelle? You’re… Michelle? That’s impossible! They must’ve gotten the wrong body! How could this be Michelle?
“Michelle wouldn’t have died so early! That can’t be it! Yeah!” Kevin kept murmuring to himself while shaking his head.
In the past, I was curious about whether or not Kevin would regret being so–mean to me after realizing that I was dead.
Watching this scene, however, just made me feel immensely disgusted.
