Chapter6
The next day at noon, I arrived at the loan
company.
I had asked around and found that this place had relatively low–interest rates, and they had an unspoken rule.
They don’t lend too much or for too long on installment plans.
I walked in, my high heels clicking on the floor.
Inside, a group of people were gathered around playing cards.
“Hey, it’s a woman?” A man with a cigarette looked up at me.

“Women can’t borrow money?” I raised an eyebrow.
The man smiled. “Of course, you can.”
He then had one of his subordinates hand me a contract. “Name, address, ID number, amount, repayment date, fill all of this out.”
I took it and signed it without hesitation.
The man raised an eyebrow. “Pretty quick?”
Before he could finish speaking, his eyes widened when he saw the amount. “Three
million?”
He threw the contract down. “That much, and you want cash? No way.”
I took a deep breath. “I urgently need it, I must have it right now. Whatever the

conditions, I can meet them.”
At that moment, the door to the side room opened, and Joseph walked out, long legs striding confidently.
“Bertha, why didn’t you ask me for money?” Joseph asked.
“I owe you a favor,” I replied calmly.
I had considered asking him for help, but after the last time with the car rental, he had already helped me.
The man at the loan company saw Joseph and asked, “Big brother, do you know her?”
Big brother?
I froze. This company was Joseph’s?

Upon hearing this, I said nothing more and turned to leave.
“Wait!” Joseph crouched down and picked up the contract.
I turned back and saw him handing it to me.
“Forget it, I know you’re stubborn. I’ll lend you the money according to the terms, with the repayment date at the end of the month.”
His gaze was deep, concealing emotions I couldn’t quite read.
“Thanks.” I took the contract.
Joseph looked at me, as if he wanted to say something, but I interrupted him, “I also need one of your subordinates.”
Joseph swallowed his words and nodded,

calling over the man who had been smoking.
I knew Joseph had feelings for me.
What he wanted to say was probably about that.
But right now, I had no interest in discussing love or relationships.
Besides, I had lost trust in men a long time
ago.
I gave Marta a set of earpieces so I could hear her and Irvin’s conversations in real
time.
Through the villa’s surveillance cameras, I could see them moving around the place.

Marta, in a red dress, sat on the sofa, sipping a glass of wine.
“You came to find me, aren’t you afraid Bertha will find out?”
Irvin smiled. “You made it so obvious last time. I can’t pretend I didn’t notice.”
He walked over and hugged Marta.
I watched impassively.
The timing was just right.
As they sat down and had a few drinks, there was a knock at the door.
It was one of Joseph’s subordinates. I had instructed him to deliver the money as per my plan.

Seeing Marta, the man handed over several bags of cash.
“Cora, this is the last dividend.”
Marta nodded and smiled as she opened the bags. She took out two stacks of money and handed them to the man. “Good, this is your payment for running errands.”
The man smiled and took the money.
After moving the cash to the coffee table, he left.
Irvin stared at the piles of money, his eyes gleaming. “You give so much just for running errands, you really are generous.”
Marta, sitting carelessly on the sofa, responded, “It’s just small change. Every week someone brings me this, no need to

care about a few tens of thousands.”
Irvin looked up, “I don’t know what kind of business you do to make so much money?”
Marta moved closer, placing her leg on Irvin’s lap and wrapping her arm around his neck. “Investments. I have informants; every time I invest, I make a fortune in just a few days.”
Irvin still seemed a bit hesitant. He pushed Marta away. “Cora, you’re Bertha’s cousin. We…”
I was listening closely, and I could tell Irvin was testing Marta.
Marta smiled and stood up. “Don’t worry, Bertha is the kind of person who looks down on others. I’d never be sincere with her.”
Irvin sighed in relief, seemingly reassured.

After a while, he said, “Cora, I’m currently lacking money to invest in a project. I’m not asking you to give me money, but could you help me with the business?”
Marta snorted. “You think I’d help you without anything in return?”
I was watching everything unfold with a sense of satisfaction.
Irvin had fallen for the trap.
After their brief conversation, Marta received a call from Irvin inviting her out again.
She replied briefly and told him the address of the villa I had already rented.
Once the call ended, Marta looked thoughtful. “Irvin agreed, but what about the

three million?”
I punched the sandbag again, my mind filled with thoughts of Irvin’s deceitful nature.
“I’ll have someone deliver it at noon. Just tell him it’s money you earned from your business. But if he asks you to bring him along, don’t agree.”
“Why?” Marta asked in confusion.
“Irvin is very suspicious. If you agree immediately, it will seem too obvious,” I stopped and wiped the sweat from my face. “Let him see the money. If you refuse to bring him into your business, he’ll think you’re after him, not just the money.”
Once this step is completed, Irvin’s doubts will fade away.

After that, retrieving the assets will be much easier…
Marta thought for a moment and gave me a thumbs–up. “Clever!”
Irvin had indeed fallen for it.
Seeing Marta’s praise, Irvin’s eyes flickered, and he reached to hold her. “When I first met you, I could tell you were different.”
He reached for her, but Marta immediately grabbed his hand and laughed. “Not in the mood today, maybe next time.”
With that, she walked over, opened the door, and asked Irvin to leave.
Irvin exhaled in relief and rolled his eyes at her retreating figure.

When Marta turned back, he immediately put on a smile and said, “Alright.”
