Chapter 8
She was an incredibly charming woman- gentle and graceful–but I knew there was also a side of her I had never seen.
I once stumbled upon her hidden photo album, filled with many videos.
Most of them were videos a man had taken of her.
What stuck with me the most was one from a party, where she was dancing.
In the video, she was lively and radiant, glowing with energy.
At the end, I saw her stop, bouncing toward the camera, and smiling as she asked,

“Luca Bennett, do you think your girlfriend dances well?”
Luca Bennett–a name I knew all too well.
Whenever my mother had nightmares, she would call out his name in her sleep.
One time, I asked her who Luca Bennett was.
She gently patted my head and said,
“He’s your father.”
I’ve never met my father.
I wanted to ask where he was, but when I saw the sadness in her eyes, I could almost guess the answer.
As far back as I can remember, my mother had many suitors.

But she never chose any of them.
I once asked her why.
She simply said that she had already met a very special man.
I thought of the man in the video.
It must have been him.
My father.
Forty years passed in the blink of an eye.
The mother who once seemed so tall and strong now had gray hair and quietly lay in bed, her chest barely rising and falling.

Suddenly, she struggled to turn her head, looking toward the window, and smiled.
“Luca Bennett, this time, it’s you who’s come to take me home.”
Time passes so quickly.
I’ve been waiting here for almost fifty years
now.
Zane, next door, no longer finds it strange when he sees me walking my dog.
“Luca, going out to wait for your girlfriend again? You’ve been waiting for decades, do you think she’ll ever come?”
I nodded firmly.
“She will definitely come.”

But I also hope she takes her time.
That would mean she’s doing well over there.
Zane was a police officer in his lifetime, saving lives and offering aid. One time, while trying to save a girl who jumped into the river to commit suicide, the girl survived, but he drowned instead.
He walked slowly ahead, hands behind his back, calling out as he turned:
“Luca, come on, if you lose your wife, you’ll have nowhere to cry!”
Then, he muttered softly,
“I wonder how she’s doing now? Those two damn boys… I wonder if they’re taking care of their mom.”

The steps to heaven were always busy, with people arriving every day, many eagerly waiting.
I don’t know how much time passed, but eventually, most people left, leaving only a few scattered people behind.
Suddenly, Zane let out a loud “hey,” and I turned to see him holding a woman, crying uncontrollably.
“Why are you here so early? Did those two little brats make you mad? I knew it! It’s always up to me to take care of you.”
The woman slapped him firmly on the head.
“You’re not a kid anymore! Those two little brats are being good sons! Is it wrong for me to come find you early?”

Zane had been here for forty years, too.
All these years, he stayed by the steps, fearing he’d miss his loved one.
I stared at the two of them, lost in thought, unaware of someone silently standing behind me.
The excitement in Dora’s voice alerted me that something was off.
I turned around, and that familiar figure had already wrapped her arms tightly around my neck.
She seemed to have run over, gasping for breath.
I heard her say,
“Luca Bennett, let’s go home.”

Without thinking, I pulled her into an embrace, the corners of my lips curling slightly.
“Okay, let’s go home.”

Book 5 My Husband Is Obsessed With NTR
