“What are you doing?”
He gripped my arm tightly.
“If I don’t distract them, you two are doomed, you know?”
“You don’t need to save us!”
“Your family wants you alive, but I’m different. No one cares if I die.“”
“I’d care, really, don’t go to your death!”
I smiled.
“I’m a local, born and raised. Don’t worry, nothing will happen to me.”
“Oh, by the way, I’m Nora Johnson.”
“If I die, remember to burn more paper money for me.”
With that, I ran toward the kidnappers.
Fortunately, I didn’t die.
They were rescued, and I was sent back home, where my leg was broken.
Just when I thought my life was over, Father came.
He spent more money to make me his adopted daughter.
“You were the one who saved those two kids from the Gu family?”
Those dark eyes showed nothing but raw interest.
Griffin took Nora Johnson away for a long time, while Ezra kept an eye on their movements.
He hoped his efforts during this time wouldn’t be wasted.
An illegitimate child cast away abroad and ignored, yet he managed to fight his way back. Ezra was sure he could crush everyone beneath him.
But he didn’t expect that the crying little nephew from back then wasn’t a good–for–nothing; he turned out to be his biggest rival.
He remembered the girl who risked her life to save him, and even he couldn’t help but smile at the thought.
It was just a dull afternoon when Ezra had suffered a setback under Griffin and was in a foul mood, only to turn around and see Griffin standing on the street waiting for someone.
“Griffin!”
The clear, melodious voice struck Ezra’s ears, and for some reason, he heard a “thump, thump, thump” sound.
He looked up, and Ezra instantly recognized her as the girl who saved him back then.
Nora Johnson.
Ezra remembered the name.
But when he saw the girl intimately holding Griffin’s arm, unprecedented unease and anger washed over him.
Why did Griffin get to be the golden child who had everything handed to him?

advantage.
Until Griffin and Nora Johnson’s marriage started to crumble.
He heard that Griffin found the girl who saved him back then, not Nora Johnson, but her sister.
Hearing this report from his subordinates, Ezra laughed until tears almost came out.
Over the next two years, Ezra watched Nora Johnson grow disillusioned, and news of affairs was never good for a major company’s heir.
His Nora was truly his lucky star. Ezra was thrilled.
He was almost impatient to take his Nora back.
But when that golden opportunity came, Ezra still panicked.
He rushed into the room to see Nora Johnson about to fall apart. He hated Griffin’s indifference and hated his own tardiness even more.
Ezra had never shown himself in front of Griffin, but for Nora Johnson, he did.
Whatever it took, as long as his Nora didn’t leave him.
Like heaven answered his prayers, Nora Johnson woke up, but she was as innocent as a child.
This version of Nora Johnson was fine too.
The moment he saw Nora Johnson’s childlike simplicity, he immediately hatched a plan.
A plan that would surely ensnare Griffin, who grew up surrounded by love.
Ezra held the sleeping Nora Johnson and gently kissed her forehead.
His Nora was truly an angel sent from above to save him.
After leaving Griffin’s house, Ezra quickly called me.
“Congratulations on the divorce, and congratulations on your recovery. I always knew strong Nora would get better.”
His deep, gentle voice brought back memories of my time at his place.
He always catered to my needs, providing meticulous care that I couldn’t help but fall into back then.
But dreams must eventually end.
“Nora Johnson, though not very formally, I want to tell you, I truly love you.”
“I’m the one with bad intentions, I’m the wolf with a wild ambition, I’m the one who took advantage.”
“Will Nora forgive me?”
