Q6
If something were to happen, it would definitely be a fatal crash.
At that moment, the phone rang. It was Ethan.
“Hey, Liliana, don’t panic. I’m right behind your car.”
I covered my mouth, unable to stop myself from crying.
I completely broke down in that instant. I thought I had lived through one lifetime and had the ability to protect myself.
Ever since I came back from the last trip at sea, I had boon on high alert, never expecting this to happen.
I switched the phone to speaker mode as Ethan gave directions to the driver.
“There’s a gate up ahead; turn off here.”
The driver followed his command and turned.
Ethan followed closely, speeding past my car and veering toward ours.
The cars collided, and the airbags in both vehicles were deployed.
Both the driver and Ethan seemed fine.
Ethan quickly got out of his car and ran over. “Liliana, are you okay?”
My legs were weak, and I could barely stand.
After a full checkup at the hospital, I asked, “How did you know our car was in trouble?”
Ethan stared at me, his voice carrying a hint of guilt. “Actually, since you mentioned divorce, I
had someone follow you.”
I froze, shocked. I waited for him to continue.
“Asher is someone who will do anything to achieve his goals. I was worried you’d be in
danger, so… I followed your car when I saw someone acting suspiciously in front of it this
afternoon.”
This divorce with Asher had clearly crossed a line with them.
They didn’t have time to make plans and just wanted me gone quickly so he could inherit the
fortune.
“Thank you. If it weren’t for you, I’d probably already be at the bottom of the river.”
“Do you need help?”
“Just have your lawyer help me get a fast divorce.”
I would handle the rest myself.
That night, I called 911.
When I got home, Asher was waiting outside.
I had changed the password last time, so he couldn’t get in.
He looked shocked. “How are you here?”
He probably thought something had happened to me, which explained his expression. “This is what I should be asking you. What are you doing here?”
Asher stammered, unable to explain himself for a long time.
“If you don’t leave. I’ll call the police.”

Once he left, I breathed a little easier.
The next morning, the police came to my company to ask more questions.

The driver went over the details of the situation again and added, “The car was checked just
yesterday morning. There was no issue.”
The implication was clear.
The police picked up on the subtle hint and took the surveillance footage from the
underground garage and the black box from the car.
While the garage footage didn’t show much, the black box did confirm that someone had
tampered with my car.
After two days of investigation, I received a call from the police asking me to come in for further questioning.
A figure appeared briefly in the parking lot surveillance footage.
The police enlarged the image and compared it with their database.
They showed me a photo.
“Do you recognize this person?”
“Yes.”
I did recognize him, but it was from a year ago.
My house was in Grandview Estates, a well–known affluent area. There weren’t many people
around, except for a few residents, and the streets were empty most of the year.
One afternoon, I was out with friends when a guy with green hair stopped me on the road.
He claimed he was applying for a security job but had been turned down, so I asked if I could give him a ride back to the city.
Although the man in the photo had black hair now, the mole on his lip made him unmistakably familiar.
He had been near my house before, and the timing matched.
Could this person have been involved in my parents‘ car accident a year ago?
