At the time, the black box in the car was completely damaged, and there was no other evidence. The police had no choice but to rule it as an accident. Now, I couldn’t help but suspect that my parents‘ car crash wasn’t really an accident. After all, they would do anything for money. Now, it seemed like they were using the same trick again.
I told the police about my suspicions, and they decided to investigate my parents‘ car accident from a year ago along with the current case. They quickly called in the suspects for
questioning.
Just as I got back to the office, Eleanor stopped me at the door. She was wearing a plain T–shirt, her makeup wasn’t as perfect as usual, and her hair was a mess. Clearly, she had been through some tough times recently..
“Liliana, do you really want me dead?” she sneered, trying to trap me in the same way she
always had, using our supposed friendship to control me.
Since I had kicked her out of the company last time, I immediately contacted the company’s legal team and sued her on behalf of the company. She must have hired a lawyer by now, realizing that she was going to spend the rest of her life in prison. So now, she was back, looking
for a way out.
“Liliana, you pushed me to this.” She said, pulling a fruit knife from her bag and rushing toward
- me. “Die!”
Thankfully, after the car accident, I always had bodyguards with me. Two large bodyguards
easily restrained her and sent her straight to the police station.
Two days later, the police called me. “There’s progress in your parents‘ case.”
At the station, the police showed me a video. The security cameras in the parking lot hadn’t captured anything the day my parents had the accident. There was nothing unusual in my dad’s driving footage, so the case was originally closed as an accident.
“This was captured by a car owner’s dashcam,” the officer explained.
In the video, a man with green hair appeared near my dad’s car, acting suspiciously. I
watched as he effortlessly opened the car door and tampered with the brakes. He then got out
and crawled under the car, staying there for more than ten minutes before emerging. That night,
my dad crashed the car.
The thug was arrested and initially acted tough, refusing to confess. That was until I had the
police tell him that Jaxon was already planning to run. Jaxon was Eleanor’s husband, a former small–time thug who I had once helped get a low–key job at the company.
Hearing that, the thug finally broke down.
“I don’t know whose car that was. They just told me to mess with it. The next morning, I saw the news and recognized the car. That’s when I realized it was Logan’s car. I thought I w finished, but then Jaxon said it was fine, someone was covering for me. Still, I hid for a while.”
He had no idea he had actually gotten away with it. In the end, the police still closed the case
as an accident.

“This time, Jaxon came to me again and said it was urgent. I thought, if I’m going to do one, I
might as well do two… so I…”
The police quickly caught Jaxon, and he took full responsibility, leaving out any mention of
Asher or Eleanor. It seemed like he still thought he could get away with it.
My secretary called. “Ms. Clarke, you were right. Mr. Farley is indeed holding a press conference tomorrow morning.”
The day before, I received a call from a friend of a journalist. He told me that Asher was going to hold a press conference in the name of the company. I knew then that he was about to make his big move. The divorce agreement still hadn’t been signed. He must have been looking for more than just the money on the table.
The next day, the press conference took place as scheduled.

Asher shamelessly went on about how hard he’d worked over the past year to keep the company afloat.
“I know, in everyone’s eyes, I’m just someone trying to climb the social ladder. Ever since I married Liliana, I’ve been like a dog, doing everything to please her, taking every insult and
blow. Now, she’s cheating on me and wants a divorce.”
Behind him, a screen showed photos of me with Ethan. It was the moment at the auction when he had left me behind. There were a few more pictures of me getting into Ethan’s car.
“You guys will probably say a few pictures don’t prove anything. They grew up together, childhood sweethearts. Even their parents tried to match them up before they got married. Ms. Gaines has been back home for a year now, and in that time, Liliana has changed a lot. Even her best friend says so.”
Then came a series of hotel check–in records. The online news exploded, but the public’s
comments were strange.
[Bro, just be happy! It’s just cheating. Look the other way and enjoy a lifetime of riches.] [Yeah, he’s just an assistant. Even if Liliana gets divorced, she’ll probably give him a lot, right?]
[Clearly, they didn’t settle. Otherwise, it wouldn’t have leaked.]
[He doesn’t really want half the assets, does he?]
He didn’t just want half. He wanted it all.
The netizens were peculiar, but their strange comments couldn’t stop the stock from
dropping.
Not only was our company affected, but even Ethan’s company was affected.
I quickly had the company release a statement and put out some intimate photos of Asher
and Eleanor.
This wasn’t just about two photos that could be misinterpreted. No, these were clear kissing
photos.
Eleanor, whether in front of friends or the public, had always acted like my best friend.
Once the photos were posted, all hell broke loose.
[I knew it! He was the one cheating all along!]
[Yeah, isn’t Eleanor Liliana’s best friend? So both the husband and the best friend betrayed her.]
[I can’t believe how much pressure Liliana must have been under.]
[I support Liliana’s divorce. Tear apart those sc*mbags!]
The online comments were one–sided. The reporters at the press conference saw the news unfold.
They fired sharp questions at Asher.
“What’s your relationship with Ms. Estes?”
“I heard Eleanor was arrested for intentional harm. Is that true?”
D
“There are rumors that Eleanor tried to assassinate Ms. Clarke. Is that true?”
The press conference turned chaotic. What was supposed to be a session where Asher was ccusing me now had him on the defense.
The reporters‘ questions became more intense, and Asher couldn’t handle it. He had to leave nder the protection of his bodyguards.
The public’s opinion was clear. They condemned both Asher and Eleanor.
At the police station, I voiced my suspicions.
The police re–interviewed Jaxon. He still acted carefree, thinking Asher could still help him.
The police showed him the footage from the press conference.
“If you don’t tell us the truth, you’ll be the main culprit. You know what charges come with attempted murder. Hand over the evidence now, and we might help you get a lighter sentence.”
Jaxon had been a small–time thug, always following Asher’s orders.
With Asher’s fall from grace, he had no more expectations. Gone was the arrogance, and he
spilled everything.
He confessed everything, how Asher had instructed him to tamper with my parents‘ car and
how the three of them had planned to push me into the sea.
He told everything, leaving nothing out.
Not only was his confession recorded, but he also had tapes he’d secretly kept.
Asher was arrested at the airport.
With a full chain of evidence, he had no way to deny his guilt.
In the end, he was sentenced to death for attempted murder.
I filed for divorce, ensuring Asher would walk away with nothing.
bars.
Eleanor had greedily taken too much money and would spend the rest of her life behind
Jaxon and that green–haired freak got the punishment they deserved.
When everything was over, I stood before my parents‘ graves, filled with regret.
I had let the wolf into my house. Marrying Asher had led to all this.
But at least fate gave me a second chance to live.
I made sure to bring those people to justice.
Just as I turned away, I received a call from Ethan.
“That gossip about us last time made my stock crash. A meal out with me wouldn’t be too much to ask, would it?”
