For his first love’s son, he hurt me
and my daughter for the second time.
Chapter One
Shortly after my daughter, Lily, was born,
tragedy struck.
She passed away, leaving me heartbroken
and bedridden.
My husband, Nate, sat by my side, comforting
- me.
He suggested donating Lily’s organs, saying it
was the best way to help others and allow her
spirit to live on.
I agreed, trusting his judgment.
With his gentle care, I slowly began to emerge from the depths of grief.
Never in a million years did I suspect that the
man I thought was my rock was about to
shatter my world.
One day, I overheard a conversation between
him and his assistant.
“Mr. Thompson, Ms. Callahan’s son has
already received your daughter’s kidney.”
“Sir, with all due respect, is it worth
sacrificing your own daughter to save Ms.
Callahan’s son? I mean…”
Nate sighed deeply.
“As long as Claire is happy, I’ll do anything.
<
We can have another child, but if Claire loses
her son, she loses everything.
I felt like I’d been plunged into an ice bath.
It dawned on me then: my daughter’s death
wasn’t an accident.
Nate had orchestrated it.
“But Mr. Thompson, if your wife finds out you
killed your own daughter, will she ever forgive
you?”
The assistant’s voice was a knife twisting in
my gut.
I heard Nate’s cold reply.
“She can never find out. All she wants is
another child, right? I’ll make it up to her. I’ll
give her another baby.”
I stood outside the door, stifling my sobs,
tears streaming down my face.
The man I thought loved me more than
anything had been lying all along.
He didn’t love me.
His only concern was his precious Claire
Callahan.
I stumbled back to our room, my heart a lead
weight in my chest.
I stared at the crib in the corner, the one I
had so lovingly prepared for Lily.
The little outfits hanging inside were stitched
with my own hands, each stitch a testament
to my anticipation.
Now, none of it mattered.
She had come into this world only to have her
life stolen by the one person who should have
protected her.
All the love I had for Nate turned to bitter,
burning hatred.
I sank onto the edge of the bed, my mind
racing.
I thought back to when Nate and I first met.
Back then, I was drawn to Nate, even though
he was just a struggling nobody.
I truly believed I had found true love.
He had promised me countless times that he
loved me and would protect me forever.
For him, I had given up everything, working
alongside him to build our life from scratch.
And now?
I was repaid with betrayal.
I wept, my sobs tearing through me.
I dialed a number I hadn’t called in years.
“Dad, I want to come home.”
I choked out the words, tears flooding my
voice.
My dad immediately sensed something was
wrong.
“Sarah, whatever it is, tell me. I’ll fix it.”
His voice was filled with concern.
He even offered to come and get me.
I declined, telling him I’d be home soon.
He simply told me that he’d always be there
to protect me.
As I hung up, Nate walked in.
<
He saw me holding Lily’s clothes, still crying,
and a flicker of unease crossed his face.
