I dare not be willful anymore.
I begged him, “Let me go.”
He froze in place, looking at me in disbelief,
never thinking that I would reject him.
“Xia Xia, what are you talking about, you
pestered me, chased me for five years, now
that you’ve caught up, you don’t want it
anymore?” He asked me with red eyes, as if I
was the ungrateful person.
“I dare not.” I shook my head, “I have nothing,
I don’t want to die, Kevin.”
く
“Is marrying me to die?” He grabbed my arm.
and asked sharply.
“Yes, no, Bai Weiwei will kill me, she will
really kill me, you marry her, let me go, okay.”
I had been on the verge of collapse for a long
time.
I hugged myself and hid in the corner,
thinking that I would be safe this way.
Kevin kept closing in, I looked at him in fear,
like a weak little kitten, trembling.
He pulled me into his arms, his voice frantic,
“What happened? Tell me what happened!”
I screamed and fainted.
When I woke up, the room was a mess. Ryan
く
was sitting beside my bed, with a few bruises
on him.
“I only left for a minute, and this happened?
What happened to all that boldness you used
to have, huh?”
I gave a wry smile. “I envy that old me too. So
free, so brave, nothing scared her. But people
change, Ryan. I’m scared, okay? I’m just a
normal person.”
He pulled me into a hug, softly comforting
- me. “Don’t worry. I’ve already started looking
into it. I won’t let the people who hurt you get
away with it.”
I found a kind of quiet with him that I’d never
known. Calm, peaceful, safe.
く
Being with him made me feel more at ease
than I’d ever felt before.
Without anyone else interfering, we were
almost like a real couple.
But happiness is always fleeting. Two days
later, Kevin showed up again.
Ryan stood in front of me, acting as my
shield. “Isn’t your wedding the day after
tomorrow, buddy? I’ll congratulate you in
advance. What are you doing here?”
I
“My bride is here. What am I supposed to do
for a wedding without her?” Kevin stared at
me with this intense, pleading look.
“Say what you need to say and get it over
with. You two need closure.” Ryan stepped
く
aside. “But if you even think about hurting her
again, you can get the hell out.”
Kevin put a gift box on the floor and got
down on his knees.
“Xia Zhi, I messed up. I ignored you. But you
can’t just give me the death penalty for that. I missed a few calls, okay? You chased me for
five years. Can’t you let me chase you now?
Just give me one more chance.”
“Xia Zhi, I’ll be waiting for you at the wedding.
If you don’t come, I won’t get married. You’re
the only one for me.”
Then he just left, not even giving me a chance.
to say anything.
Ryan opened the gift box. It was a wedding
