Chapter 1
First day of classes and my new roommate’s
sobbing about how her celebrity boyfriend
won’t go public with their relationship.
I glanced at the picture of her “boyfriend” and
nearly choked.
Was that my screw–up little brother? When
did he even start dating?
I texted him immediately to get the scoop, but
he flat–out denied it.
I gave him my best “are you kidding me?”
face. “But she even knows about that
birthmark on your back!”

That freaked him out enough to send out a tweet that night: “Young, hot, and SINGLE!”
My roommate’s face was priceless. This is
the life. Being a celebrity’s sister is so much
fun!

“I want a love I can actually show off, not this
sneaking–around BS!”
My new roommate, Ashley, was already on
the phone crying before she even finished
unpacking. I figured it was just a boyfriend
fight.
Then she started wailing about how her
boyfriend was a celeb and didn’t want anyone

She flipped through her phone, showing us
his Instagram account, practically demanding
we follow him.
I opened it up, and nearly dropped my jaw.
That was my idiot brother, Ethan!
He got scouted like three years ago. Mom
just wanted him to go to Los Angeles and
become famous.
At first, we didn’t really believe it until Ashley
played a recording.
“Ash, where’d you put that bottle of wine?”

Her eyes lit up with this smug look. “He’s
always misplacing stuff. I tell him all the time,
but does he listen?”
We were still kind of skeptical, so Ashley
turned on the waterworks.
“He’ll never go public with me, even though
he’s always dropping hints on his Insta! I’m
done with the games!”
She showed us Ethan’s first post: “To the

picture of a fluffy Pomeranian.
“See? A.B. stands for Ashley Bear! It’s our
secret code!”
I exchanged a look with my other roommate.
“Maybe it’s just a coincidence,” I suggested

Big mistake. She got all huffy.
“Some people are just jealous they can’t get a
guy like him.”
Her attitude was getting on my nerves. Ethan
was my brother. I was gonna see how far this
charade went.
Our other roommate, Brittany, had gone home
for the weekend. Before she left, she gave me
a “watch out for Ashley” warning. I just
shrugged.
At first, we were all pretty doubtful about her
claims, but then she started predicting
Ethan’s schedule – and she was always right.
“Ethan’s about to start filming that new action.
Sure enough, the next day, “Rising Star Lands
Lead in Crossroads” was trending
everywhere.
“How do you know all this, Ash?” my other
roommate, Kelly, asked, poking her head out
from under her lofted bed.
“Because I’m his girlfriend! He tells me
everything!”
I frowned. Too many coincidences.
Ashley shot me this superior look.
“Not only that, but he’s got a new
endorsement deal coming up. Just wait and
see!”
I was starting to get suspicious. I texted my

“Hey, Ethan, you got a new endorsement
coming up?”
He replied almost immediately. “Sis! How’d
you know? You actually care?”
I glanced at Ashley, who looked like I’d just
insulted her entire family.
“I’m telling you, you’re just jealous! Don’t
think your family’s money makes you better
than me!”
My dad told me to stop playing poor. He told
me I should make my wealth public and show
it off so I don’t get bullied.
But I never expected to have a “gold digger”
roommate. What am I supposed to do?
She immediately launched into a phone call.
“Ethan, my roommate is being such a jerk!
She’s acting like she’s better than me
because her family’s loaded!”
The nerve of this girl!
I snatched the phone out of her hand. “Get a
grip!”
Before Ashley could say anything, Kelly
chimed in. “Don’t be such a btch! You think
money solves everything? Why don’t you
donate some of it instead!”
I was stunned. Kelly always seemed so sweet.
I knew her family didn’t have much, so I
always shared my snacks with her and never
wore anything too flashy around her.
I even secretly paid for her mom’s medical
bills last month.
And this is how she saw me?
