- 11.
Jake’s hands on my shoulders began to
tremble.
He stared at me, his eyes burning.
“Five years ago, I was in that car accident.
You were next to me in the rain, crying. Why?
Someone like you, who doesn’t have a heart,
who didn’t even say goodbye when we broke
up, why were you crying?”
His face was twisted.
L
My face was calm.
I looked at him, at his loss of control.
My voice was calm.
“Jake, this isn’t you.”
He blinked.
Then, he finally let go of me.
His lips trembled.
Something was blocking his chest.
He punched, smashing everything in the
trailer.
<
Then he kicked the table and chairs.
I huddled in the corner.
Even though I was calm, my body trembled.
Years ago, I had seen this.
The bedroom destroyed.
Jake grabbed the last chair, and I moved to
the corner.
He saw me.
I saw his face change.
He stopped, and put the chair down.
<
He walked out.
I grabbed the curtains and trembled.
“Go home,” he said.
“Don’t come back.”
I sat in the corner for a long time.
