- 6.
The room went silent.
I didn’t know how to feel: angry, bitter,
relieved?
Finally, one of my coworkers spoke up.
“Mr. Henderson, are you saying that Chad’s
く
the one who’s guilty, not Ethan?”
Mr. Henderson slowly sat up, blood running
down his forehead.
“Yeah, Chad did all this. I tried to let Mr.
Hayes know.”
“Mr. Hayes gave up his anniversary date to
come back to the office and patch the holes.”
“That’s the only reason why the company
didn’t go under.”
“Later, Chad found out my granddaughter
was dying and paid me a lot of money to
leave the country.”
“I already gave all the evidence to the police.”

Everyone in the room turned to look at Chad.
Chad opened his mouth to say something, but
he shoved Brittany to the ground and tried to
run.
But there were too many people in the room.
A few angry coworkers grabbed him.
He was bruised and battered when they
brought him back.
“We didn’t touch him, officers! He just fell a
lot.”
The coworkers who didn’t go after him were
kicking themselves.
cuffed Chad
<
The police cuffed Chad.
Even in handcuffs, Chad kept yelling.
“You got the wrong guy! You should be
arresting Ethan.”
“He’s the one who did all this!”
“You don’t have any proof to arrest me. Let
me go, or I’ll sue!”
“Do you know who I am? I’m dating Brittany
Coldwell. You don’t want to mess with me.”
Chad’s crazy yelling said it all.
Anyone could tell he was just trying to sound
tough.

The crowd parted, and a cop walked in.
“Chad Matthews, I’m Detective Miller. We
have evidence. You’re under arrest. Come
with us.”
“Brittany Coldwell, Ethan Hayes, please come
with us to answer some questions.”
It was dusk when I finished giving my
statement.
Brittany had been waiting for me.
She stood up when she saw me, like she
wanted to say something, but she couldn’t
get the words out.
Before she could say anything, an assistant
ran in.
<
“Brittany, Mr. Hayes, something terrible has happened! Our competitors cracked the
source code and are attacking our servers!”
It was Brittany’s assistant.
He was clearly panicked.
Brittany’s face went white.
“Get back to the office!”
She grabbed my arm.
I stood still, frowning.
“Brittany, have you forgotten? I’m not the
head of Network Security anymore.”
“You fired me.”
