Sherry’s face was a deep shade of red, anger bubbling just beneath the surface. She wanted to drag Yanina out of there, but she had to maintain her composure in front of the high society crowd. It was all just too mortifying.
At that moment, Mabel raised her bidding paddle as well, driving the price of the “Heritage Rose Tea Set up to 260
thousand.
“I don’t need your money. I’ll pay for it myself, Yanina declared, seeing Mabel’s paddle go up again. “Three hundred and thirty thousand!” she countered.
“Are you crazy! Spending three hundred and thirty thousand on Heritage Rose Tea Set? People will laugh at the Zamora family for being such fools!” Sherry muttered under her breath already regretting bringing Yanina to the auction. Yanina was completely out of control.
With a slight smirk, Mabel glanced at Yanina, a hint of provocation in her eyes. “Congratulations!” she declared, but her tone was dripping with sarcasm
Mabel then turned her attention to Sherry. “Your daughter–in–law is quite daring! If this tea set were flawless, I might have bid for it myself. Her meaning was clear: Yanina had poor judgment. Spending three hundred and thirty thousand on a flawed item was unbelievable.
Sherry managed was a strained smile. “As long as she likes it. It was none of Mabel’s concern. Even though Sherry didn’t care. much for Yanina, at this auction, they were family, sharing the same reputation.
Those around them caught onto the underlying drama, chuckling softly as they anticipated the unfolding spectacle.
Yanina gave a slight smile. “Thanks for going easy on me, Mabel This Heritage Rose Teacup set, you know, has another name. It’s called the Ivy League Scholar Teacup. Ever heard of it. Mabel
Mabel curled her lips slightly. “Ivy League Scholar Teacup sounds like just another made–up name to cover the embarrassment of losing.
Yanina slipped on her gloves and carefully picked up the chipped “Heritage Rose Teacup, turning it over. “This set was specially made by order of a famous scholar. He and his father were both top scholars, hence the name.”
“This Heritage Rose Teacup set is only a remnant of what once was a complete set with six teacups and a teapot. Over the years, only these four teacups remain. If you consider its historical value, it’s worth much more than a million, even 3 million wouldn’t do it justice.” Yanina remarked as she gently placed the teacups into a box and held them like a cherished possession. Only she understood their true significance to her.
Upon realizing this, everyone regretted it immensely. While porcelain was relatively easy to come by, obtaining the prestigious title of the Ivy League Scholar Teacup was rare. The auction was attended by notable figures, all hoping for a stroke of good fortune. Yet, it was the keen–eyed but little–known Mrs. Zamora who managed to claim it.
Mabel’s smile slipped a bit. Her youngest was gearing up for the SATs, and that “Ivy League Scholar Teacup felt like the perfect good luck charm. She eyed the box in Yanina’s arms with envy, wishing she could snatch it away then and there.
Mabel’s issue with Yanina today wasn’t just about Yanina critiquing the “Heritage Rose Tea Set and making her look bad. She had plans for her daughter to marry into the Zamora family. The Harnett and Zamora families were a perfect match, and their union would have been powerful Hut Yanina disrupted what could have been a great arrangement,
Mabel had been holding onto that anger for years, surprised that Yanina could spot and recognize the “Ivy League Scholar” Teacup
Sherry, however, fell much better. Seeing Mabel’s frustration somehow lifted her spirits. Who would’ve thought a flawed “Heritage Rose Tea Set, starting at 40 thousand, had such a backstory? The seller must be kicking themselves right now.

Sherry gave Yanina a rare, gentle smile. “Good girl. I’ll have someone from Bvlgari come by later to pick out some jewelry
for you.”
“No need,” Yanina replied, shaking her head. “I rarely wear jewelry, and it would just go to waste.” She and Cameron were already divorced, and she bought the “Heritage Rose” Tea Set for herself. She didn’t want any more ties to the Zamora family, especially not favors from Sherry.
With the “Ivy League Scholar Teacup in play, everything else at the auction felt a bit dull. After it wrapped up, both Sherry and Yanina were still feeling off from earlier, so they decided to head straight to their car parked by the road.
“Yani, I’ll have Cameron wire you 3 million soon. I need the Heritage Rose Tea Set for something. Sherry said, nodding for Yanina to hand the box to the driver.
Yanina tightened her grip. “Mrs. Zamora, this set is special to me, so I can’t part with it, she said firmly.
Sherry frowned. With Cameron’s grandpa, Carl’s birthday approaching, she had planned to gift him the ‘Heritage Rose Teacup. To her surprise, Yanina was being difficult. “Yanina, you’re married into the Zamora family; you spend our money! The Ivy League Scholar Teacup isn’t yours. It belongs to us. You have no right to refuse me! And what did you just call me?” When Yanina first arrived at the Zamora residence at 15, she called Sherry “Mrs. Zamora. After the engagement, she switched to “Sherry. But today, she kept calling Sherry “Mrs. Zamora.”
Yanina held onto the “Heritage Rose” Tea Set, unfazed. “Mrs. Zamora, there seems to be a misunderstanding. I bought this teacup with my own money, not from the Zamora family. And as for how I address you, Mrs. Zamora, maybe you should ask your son
“Your own money?” Sherry sneered, disbelief dripping from her words. An orphan without support; if Cameron hadn’t married her, she’d probably be begging on the streets. She had been spending Cameron’s money since their wedding. She mused, “Now Yanina claimed she bought the “Heritage Rose Tea Set with her own funds? Where could she possibly have gotten any money?
“Mrs. Zamora, if there’s nothing else, I’ll be on my way. Yanina didn’t want to argue with Sherry. Without waiting for Sherry’s response, Yanina turned and left..
“Madam, what’s going on with Mrs. Zamora?” the driver asked, confusion evident in his voice.
Sherry watched Yanina leave, feeling like she barely recognized her anymore. She shook her head, replaying Yanina’s words: “Go back and ask your son?” She thought, ‘Is something happening between Yanina and Cameron?”
“Let’s drive. I’ll ask Cameron about it when we get home,” Sherry said as she climbed into the car. The driver pulled away slowly.
Yanina ordered an Uber and settled onto a bench by the roadside. A few motorcycles zoomed by, then swung around and pulled up in front of her.
