Desperate Counterattack
Chapter 1
Section 1
In my past life, my boyfriend’s childhood
bestie pretended to be me, living it up as a
rich heiress.
When I caught her red–handed, she flipped
out and shoved me off the roof.
As I lay bleeding, I saw my boyfriend’s half-
brother, the kid he kept hidden, begging her
to spare me.
She just kicked him away.
Then, she had her goons do things to me that
<
no one should ever experience before I finally
died.
And right up until my last breath, my
boyfriend was defending her, refusing to
believe she’d pushed me or hurt his brother.
This time around, I didn’t bother calling my
boyfriend first.
Instead, I texted my dad.
“Dad, some psycho is running around
pretending to be me. Can you take care of
it?”
“Also, I’m switching up the engagement.
Forget Chad, I want his half–brother,
Michael.”
く
I wanted to see how Chad and his little
sweetheart would act without me as their
safety net.
:
“Ashley! You think you’re so cool exposing
me tonight, huh? Daring to make me look bad
in public? You’re gonna pay!”
“Even if you are the real Ashley, who’s gonna
believe you? Everyone knows you’re just
Chad’s lapdog. Today, you’re gonna die!”
Ashley’s familiar screech filled my ears.
I didn’t even have time to think.
Someone slammed into me from behind.
<
Suddenly, I was falling, plummeting to the
ground.
Pain shot through every part of my body.
It hit me hard.
I was reliving it.
I was back at the moment when Ashley
pushed me off the building, about to die all
over again.
Panicked, I fumbled for my phone and dialed
my emergency contact.
Chad’s cold, disgusted voice answered.
“Ashley, can you stop with these pathetic
attempts to get my attention?! I don’t care
く
what lies you tell about Ashley, I’ll never
believe you!”
“Ashley is a freaking heiress, worth millions.
Why would she risk getting her hands dirty
kidnapping you? Get real!”
He paused, probably waiting for me to start
begging.
I remembered how I’d pleaded with him last
time, trying to make him believe me.
He didn’t.
He actually accused me of faking the whole
thing.
Seeing Ashley leave the roof, I managed to
hang up and call one last number.
Г
My dad answered almost immediately.
I swallowed the metallic taste of blood and
croaked, “Dad, help me…”
My vision was starting to fade.
The impact had messed me up bad.
I felt myself slipping away.
But I couldn’t die.
I’m the sole heir to the freaking Miller fortune!
My family, who love me more than anything,
was waiting for me to come home.
If I hadn’t been so busy chasing after Chad, I
wouldn’t have hidden my identity from my
parents and worried them sick.
That call had gone through.
Dad would be sending people.
I just had to hold on.
I tried to get up, to drag myself somewhere
safe before Ashley came back.
But of course, that’s when she showed up.
Ashley strolled over in her stupid heels, her
eyes full of hate as she looked down at me.
“Well, well, Ashley. Looks like you’re harder to
kill than I thought! Let me finish the job!”
Г
A chill went down my spine.
If she did anything else, I knew I was done
for.
As I watched Ashley pick up a brick, ready to
smash my skull, a dark shape rushed forward.
He took the hit for me.
“Ashley, are you okay?” Michael asked, his
voice full of worry.
Chad’s half–brother, Michael?
Images flashed through my mind of him
begging Ashley to spare me, only to be
beaten to death by her bodyguards.
My throat tightened.
This time, I’d protect him.
I wouldn’t let him get hurt because of me.
I didn’t have time to wonder why he was
there.
I reached out, trying to push him away.
“Get out of here! She’ll kill you!”
But before I could move, Ashley wrapped a
rope around Michael’s neck and started
strangling him.
He didn’t even have a chance to react.
Then, she kicked him in the chest.
“You little punk! Trying to mess with me?”
く
“Do you even know who I am? You wanna
die? I’ll make it happen!”
Michael was gasping for air.
His face was turning blue.
I knew he was in serious danger.
“Stop!” I yelled. “He’s Chad’s brother! If you
kill him, Chad will come after you!”
