He lifted his foot and kicked Uncle Zoran hard.
Uncle Zoran fell to the ground.
Alec pinned Uncle Zoran down and beat him mercilessly.

With each punch, Uncle Zoran’s face became more unrecognizable.
Aunt Primrose tried to pull Alec back, but he shoved her forcefully, causing
her to slam into the wall behind her.
The back of her head immediately split open.
My dad was stunned by the scene, but my mom was the first to regain her
senses.
She mumbled.

Before my mom could finish, my dad looked as if he’d been struck by lightning. “It can’t be, it can’t be.”
Uncle Zoran struggled to break free.

Alec lay on the ground, laughing like a madman.

Mrs. Frost couldn’t bear to see Alec like this. She knelt down beside him.

My mom rushed up to Alec.
“Where’s Melody? You said she was discharged, but where is she now?”

He believed I would never abandon him.
The office door was thrown open forcefully.
The doctor on duty was startled.
Upon realizing it was Alec, his colleague relaxed.
“Weren’t you by your wife’s side? What are you doing here?”
Alec grabbed his colleague’s collar, heedless of decorum.
“Did you process the discharge for the patient in bed number 87”
Hearing it was about me, his colleague immediately recalled what he had heard about me from Faye.
A look of disgust flashed across his face before he spoke.
“What’s the matter? When someone’s gone, of course they need to be discharged.” Alec stared at his colleague’s face in shock.
His coworker continued speaking.
“Wasn’t it you who performed the surgery? The moment you left the
operating room, she stopped breathing.”
Alec released his grip on his colleague’s collar, shaking his head repeatedly. “That can’t be. You’re lying to me. It’s not like that.”
His colleague, assuming Alec was feeling guilty, tried to comfort him. “Don’t be so upset. Your wife was nearly killed by her. The fact that she
managed to save your wife’s life counts for something.”
“At least in her next life, she won’t be reborn as a lowly creature.”

Alec slowly crouched down, holding his head in his hands.
He couldn’t believe I was really dead.
He began to punch his own head violently.

He didn’t know how to convince himself.
But he had to see my body to believe that I was really gone.
Alec jogged all the way, reaching his destination.
He asked the person on duty about me.
But that person didn’t know either. Just as Alec was about to leave empty–handed, someone walked by.
Alec recognized my phone.
It had a photo of us together from our college days.
Alec grabbed the person’s hand.
“Where did you get this phone?”
The one he grabbed was an orderly.
She had taken it from my bag.
Seeing Alec’s white coat, the orderly didn’t dare lie to him.
1 got it from a dead person.”
Hearing this, Alec tightened his grip on the orderly’s hand in agitation. “Where is her body?”
The orderly’s wrist ached from Alec’s grip.
It was sent for cremation long ago. Who knows where her ashes are now?”
Upon hearing the word ‘cremation, Alec collapsed to the ground.
The frightened orderly quickly dropped the phone.
“It wasn’t me, don’t come after me. Nobody claimed the body, we just followed protocol.
“Here, take the phone. Just don’t come looking for me again.”
With that, she ran off without looking back.
Alec stared at the phone before him.
In the photo, I was smiling at Alec.
Alec’s fingers dug into the ground, leaving bloody marks.
“Melody, what am I supposed to do?”
“I was wrong, I was so wrong. Please forgive me, won’t you come back to me?” “I was out of my mind. I just wanted your family to accept you after you donated your heart to your sister.” “This is how you’ll get your wish and have a family.”
Alec didn’t know that since he rescued me, I no longer clung to the idea of family.
