Lily whispered calmly, “Eat first, the food will get cold.”
Eleanor nodded, silently murmuring a thank you to her mother.

She had never been fond of seafood before, always thinking it too fishy. But after tasting the seafood prepared by the Davis family’s chef, her opinion had completely changed.
She picked up the seafood soup and took a sip before reaching for another dish.
Suddenly, Elijah coughed twice and put down his knife.
He said, “This dish is bad. Take it away.”
“The fish doesn’t smell right, either.”
“Monica can’t eat too much cold, raw food. Dad’s stomach was upset last night. Let’s remove everything. Make some nourishing soup and bring in some warm food instead.”
Eleanor was surprised. The dishes all seemed fresh to her.
But it wasn’t her place to voice an opinion at the Davis family’s table, so she silently set her knife down.
The butler wasted no time and quickly signaled the servants to start clearing the dishes.
Jayden looked at Elijah and nodded, saying, “I’m impressed you remember all these details.”
Hearing their father–son exchange, Eleanor tightened her grip on her knife. She had thought she might -get one more chance to enjoy the Davis family’s seafood feast.
A few moments later, the servants brought in the soup and some light oatmeal, along with a few mild side dishes.
Eleanor stared at the oatmeal, regretting not having eaten more seafood earlier.
At that moment, Jayden stirred his bowl of hot soup and, without raising his voice, said with a piercing calmness, “Eleanor, don’t like it?”
Eleanor was momentarily stunned, gripping her spoon tightly as she shook her head. “No.”
“Eat more,” Jayden continued, his tone unexpectedly polite. “You won’t have another chance like this.”
Eleanor understood. It was a subtle way of telling her she shouldn’t visit the Davis family much in the future.
After taking a sip of his soup, Jayden asked again, “By the way, Eleanor, why are you here today?”
Eleanor placed her bowl down but didn’t pick it up again. She met Jayden’s gaze, which carried an unmistakable warning.
Some things, she realized, had to be spoken aloud in front of everyone to be considered official.
“I’ve already moved out. I came to pick up the last of my things, I won’t be living here anymore.”
“Mm, finally growing up,” Jayden said, nodding in satisfaction as he went back to eating.

Eleanor only managed a couple more sips of soup before her stomach turned. The greasy broth churned in her stomach, and she fought the urge to vomit.
She couldn’t hold it in any longer. She stood up abruptly.
“Sorry, I need to use the bathroom.”
In the bathroom, she immediately retched, the taste lingering in her mouth. Even after rinsing three times with fruit–flavored mouthwash, the bitterness wouldn’t go away.
As she walked out, a figure blocked her path.
“Move,” she said, weakly.
Elijah stood there, watching her with concern. “Is there something else bothering you?”
Eleanor found the question almost laughable.
“Are you being nice to me now because I’m pregnant?” She laughed bitterly. “Don’t forget, you were the one who said if I got pregnant, I should get rid of it.”
Elijah’s face darkened.
Eleanor couldn’t help but think of Jayden’s warning from earlier, and the way he had treated Ellie in her past life.
Ellie was a girl, born unwanted, and he had never even acknowledged her.
Yet when Zoey returned with her son, the whole world saw how Elijah doted on the boy, even proclaiming Zoey’s son as his only true heir.
Everyone mocked her and Ellie, as if they’d schemed and planned everything–only for it all to fall apart.
Now, it seemed Jayden had gotten what he wanted.
Without her in the picture, it was up to Zoey whether she would bear that grandson.
Elijah’s cold gaze landed on Eleanor, and as his hand reached out to her, she forcefully swatted it away.
“Elijah,” she said, her voice distant, “I don’t want to carry your child, and I never will.”
She tried to walk away, but Elijah arrogantly grabbed her arm, pulling her into the bathroom and slamming the door shut with force.
“You’re crazy. What if someone sees us?” Eleanor tried to open the door to leave, but Elijah blocked it, pinning her against the sink and grabbing her wrists tightly.
“Don’t want my child? Then whose child do you want to have? Jaxen’s?”
“Yes,” she shot back, “I’d rather have Jaxen’s child than yours… ugh!”
“No,” he growled, pressing his forehead to hers. Slowly, his gaze dropped to meet hers, and the air between them grew heavy with danger. “You can’t…”
Before she could finish, his kiss landed on her lips–forceful, reckless, as if trying to claim her.

It was only when the air in the bathroom grew thick and suffocating that he finally pulled back, his breath hot against her skin.
“I can,” he muttered, his voice low and dangerous.
“I feel sick… can you let me go?” Eleanor fought the nausea building in her stomach, her voice strained.
“Go back to the room and rest,” he ordered, his grip not loosening.
