Clupter 67
“She did. Arie is crazy, you know that right. She doesn’t even care for the fact that he’s dead and the family might not yet recover from the pain. She just wants to expose his cheating ass and secure a place for her son,” I said. “I don’t think she’s entirely wrong but I’m not sure if the timing is right.”
Veronica raised a brow at me, crossing her arms. “Timing? Orthon, there’s never a ‘right‘ time to face the truth. If that man has been hiding his child from his family, he deserves every ounce of chaos Arie brings his way.”
“Maybe you’re right,” I admitted. “But Arie doesn’t think things through. She’s impulsive, and sometimes that can do more harm than good. She needs to tread carefully.”
“I understand that but you have to…” I barely finished my sentence when a number called me. “One minute please,” i told her and answered the call.
“Yes?”
“Is this Orthon Grayson?” The strange voice asked.
“Yes, why?” I asked.
“We have your wife here. She was arrested for domestic violence,” he informed me.
“My wife? Who?” I asked.
“Arie Grayson,” he answered.
Fucking hell!

Chapter 68
Where is the baby?
Orthon’s POV
“Is everything alright?” Veronica asked me. How could I say yes? I warned Arie to stay the fuck away from that family but she wouldn’t listen.
She is always so stubborn! Now they had her arrested and I was supposed to go there go and bail my wife?
“Orthon…”
“I’ll be right there, Officer, thank you,” I responded and hung up. I turned. to leave when Veronica blocked me.
“Hey, you can’t just leave without telling me what happened. Your mood suddenly changed out of the blue and I’m worried,” she said.
I really didn’t want to drag her into all of this but she was only going to worry if I kept the truth from her.
“It’s Arie,” I sighed.
“What about her? Did she get in trouble?” She asked worriedly.
“Lots of trouble actually. I’m on my way to bail her as we speak,” I answered. She let out a gasp.
“Oh my God, what happened?” She exclaimed.
“I’ll explain when I come back,” I told her. I was staring to get pissed and the last thing I wanted to do was take that anger out on Veronica.
I knew Arie was troublesome but I couldn’t even imagine what she had done for her to be arrested for assault.
“I’m coming with
to argue withou,” Veronien stated and I didn’t even have the luxury
to argue with her. “You explain on our way there. Do you have a location?”
“Yes, they sent it,” I responded as checking my messages. We got in the car and I started driving like one under alcohol.
“So what exactly happened?” Veronien asked.
“She went to her baby daddy’s place and I suspect they might have said. something to piss her off and she just went on attack mode and hurt someone. Typical Arie. She doesn’t argue with her words, she likes to use the fist.” I told her.
“Oh my God! I can’t even imagine,” she gasped.
That’s right, princess, you have no fucking idea.
“Yeah and she told the police I’m her husband so that’s a plus for me, huh?” I said sarcastically.
She placed a hand on my shoulder. “I understand that this is a lot, especially since she just came into town a few years ago. But she’s your best friend and you know how crazy she is. I might not know her that well but I can tell she’s going to kick your ass if you don’t save hers.”
A surprised laugh escaped me before I even realized that. I could feel my anger slipping away.
“I guess that’s the reason I’m driving there as fast as I can,” I snorted.
Over
“See?” She laughed. “You look a lot more handsome when you laugh. I almost wish I could look half as beautiful as you.”
Chapter 66
“Are you flirting with me in the middle of a panic drive?” I wiggled my brows and she laughed.
“I don’t know. Do you think I am?” She teased. Fucking hell she was! And I couldn’t say I dislike it.
“Coming from the girl of my dreams, no,” I said honestly, then glanced briefly at her. As much as I wanted to stare longer, I couldn’t afford to get us killed, especially with the speed I was driving.
But a glance was just enough to see her look away, unable to hide the smile on her face.
“You know, you make things a lot easier for me,” I confessed. “Every moment I spend with you finds a way to make other things seem irrelevant. It’s like you’re the most important thing at that moment and the happiness you radiate is just mesmerizing.”
I stole another glance at her and the sight of her red face made my heart. skip. It was almost scary how quickly and helplessly I was falling in love with this woman.
I mean, I have always loved her. I just seen to be falling deeper and deeper into it everyday.
Veronica bit her lip, trying to suppress a shy smile as her fingers fiddled nervously with the hem of her skirt. “You know you can’t just say things. like that, Orthon,” she said, her voice barely above a whisper.
“Why not?” I asked, keeping my eyes on the road but unable to resist glancing at her every so often. “It’s true. I’ve never been more certain about anything in my life.”
“Because…” She paused, struggling to find the words. “It makes it harder for me to act rationally when you talk like that.”
I smirked. “Good. I don’t want you to act rationally around me. I want you
