I slept well.
The next morning, Cheng Yingnan made
breakfast, getting better each time.
Alex rang the doorbell, his smile freezing
when Cheng Yingnan opened the door.
“Get lost. I need to talk to Lily.”
Cheng Yingnan blocked the door, glaring at
the trembling Su Xia. “What do you want to
say? Bringing your mistress to demand an
<
explanation?”
I stopped stirring my porridge, sighing,
getting up. “What? Ms. Su, I already reported
you last night. Do you want your boyfriend to
trouble me again?”
Alex pulled Su Xia close, anxious. “Lily, don’t
believe her. Nothing happened between us.
“Tell her the truth!”
دو
Su Xia cried, “I’m sorry, Ms. Li. I was jealous.
I called you last night, not Alex. I wanted to
teach you a lesson…”
“Nothing happened between me and Alex.
Please forgive him.”
I ignored their act. “Alex, are you free?
Staging a play at my doorstep?”
“Look at my door! You guys messed it up.
Stop it, okay?”
Su Xia wasn’t arrested, someone bailed her
out. It was obvious who.
Alex was using her, disrespecting both of us.
く
My feelings for Alex were completely gone.
Looking at him now, there was nothing.
When I closed the door, Cheng Yingnan
breathed a sigh of relief.
He cautiously looked at me. “You’re not
upset, are you? You’re not crying, right?”
Seeing my silence, he went to cut some fruit.
Looking at his back, I said, “I considered you
right after Alex. That’s unfair to you.”
Cheng Yingnan froze. I smiled, continuing,
“But I like you a lot. If you don’t mind, we can
try.”
Cheng Yingnan cut his finger.
The romantic atmosphere vanished. I
frantically bandaged him, feeling guilty. “I’m
sorry. I shouldn’t have talked when you were
busy.”
Cheng Yingnan watched me, unhappy. “Why
do you always apologize? Why are you
blaming yourself for everything?”
く
I froze, realizing I apologized too easily.
With Alex, I apologized for being late, for
eating the wrong food, for everything.
I was used to it, until someone broke through
my self–imposed chains, forcing their way
into my heart.
“Don’t apologize. You didn’t do anything
wrong.”
Cheng Yingnan, nervous, said, “So, what you
said… still counts?”

I tied the bandage, meeting his eyes, kissing
his cheek softly.
Cheng Yingnan blushed, pulling me into a
hug.
His heartbeat pounded against my chest.
My parents were happy about us and were
discharged from the hospital. They even
booked a vacation.
Cheng Yingnan’s parents were still abroad,
but his mother called, beaming.
́I got a new job, everything was going well.
But things rarely stay perfect.
I finished work early, walking home when a
red sports car sped towards me!
Instantly, someone pulled me away, but was
hit instead, falling unconscious.
The car crashed into the bushes, hitting a
lamppost.
I was terrified. I stood up, approaching my
rescuer, then froze.
It was Alex, covered in blood, barely
breathing.
