Cheng Yingnan rushed to the hospital while I
was giving a statement to the police.
It was the same officers; I felt a little
awkward.
Cheng Yingnan arrived, anxious. “Are you
okay? Are you hurt?”
I shook my head, relieving him.
Su Xia was the driver. She was fine, just
knocked unconscious by the airbag. She was
taken away.
Alex was still in surgery. He was badly injured.
Su Xia’s car was a gift from Alex.
I finally met Alex’s parents. They were serious
but didn’t blame me, asking a few questions
before leaving.
I was distraught, leaning on Cheng Yingnan.
He saw my distress and held my hand,
comforting me. “Don’t be afraid. He’ll be
okay. Don’t be sad. This was unexpected.”
Alex woke up after three days, seeing me at
his bedside, he sighed in relief.
“Lily, are you okay… You didn’t want to see
me, so I secretly watched you. Don’t be mad.
I missed you.”
وو
Tears streamed down his face. “I’m sorry. I
know I was wrong. I can’t live without you,
Lily, please…
く
Alex did save my life. He was sincere at that
moment.
But his sincerity didn’t erase his betrayal.
I wouldn’t gamble again, hoping he would
always treat me well, or that he wouldn’t
abandon me again.
So I shook my head.
“Thank you, but we’re over.”
Cheng Yingnan was waiting, calm.
“I know what kind of person you are. I believe
in you, and I believe in us.”
He took my hand, the weather turning gloomy,
rain falling.
I remembered something from my childhood.
I failed a test and was crying in a park.
Cheng Yingnan, two years older, found me
and comforted me.
Eating his candied hawthorn, I was still sad.
Cheng Yingnan patiently asked what else I
wanted. Looking at the dark sky, I had a
く
sudden idea.
“I want to see fireworks, big ones.‘
وو
Princesses in TV shows had firework displays.
But it started to rain.
Cheng Yingnan covered me with his jacket
and ran, stopping at the entrance.
He excitedly pointed to the water splashing
on the ground.
The streetlights were on. Raindrops created
small splashes illuminated by the yellow light,
blooming one by one.
“It’s raining. Look, fireworks!”
No matter what, he always supported me.
I held his hand firmly, smiling. “Let’s go
home. I’m hungry!”
When Alex left the hospital, Cheng Yingnan
and I had just gotten our marriage certificate.
Alex, looking haggard, knocked on my door
with my favorite jasmine flowers and a ring,
his voice breaking, “Lily, I’ll change. Anything
<
you want. Marry me? Please?‘
Cheng Yingnan appeared, his face dark, cold.
“We’re married. Mr. Zhao, proposing to a
married woman is shameless.”
Alex stared at the marriage certificate, agitated. “Lily! You loved me the most! This
is a trick, right?”
“I’m sorry. I won’t use their expectations on
you. Forgive me?”
“Look at this ring, I made it myself. I won’t
leave you again, ever!”
I handed him tissues, sighing. “Leave. Don’t
come back.”
I hope you find your happiness. Next time,
don’t be two–faced.
