After I lost my memory, my family regretted it 1/5
Chapter 1
To cheer up my depressed adopted sister Sienna Evans, my parents, Charles Evans and Lyla Evans, didn’t dare show me too much love, even locking me in a dark room over seven hundred times. It was all to see her smile.
They initially felt guilty about it. Still, eventually, even my most loving brother, Rylan Evans, came to see it as perfectly usual.
Only when Sienna’s depression started to improve did I finally gather the courage to beg them on my knees to seal up that dark
room.
But at Sienna’s birthday party, I just wore my only T–shirt, and that was enough to make her tear up and ask Charles and Lyla if I didn’t like her.
Charles, Lyla, and Rylan comforted her while throwing me back into that pitch–black room.
“Claire, you’re her big sister. You need to be more considerate of your sister’s feelings.
“If you hadn’t insisted on wearing such trashy clothes, your sister wouldn’t have gotten so upset.
“You’re used to this after all these years anyway, so what’s one more time?”

I huddled in the corner, pulling at my hair, unable to speak.

Three days later, they finally let me out, warning me not to make Sienna sad again.
But I just stared at them blankly.
“I’m sorry, but who are you?”

The middle–aged couple in front of me froze momentarily, looking surprised at my question.
Their surprise quickly turned to impatience.
“Claire, stop messing around and come out already!
“Your sister wants one of your baked cupcakes, so make her one!”
At the mention of “sister“, my head suddenly throbbed like it was being stabbed with needles.
Countless images flashed through my mind, but they were all blurry and unclear.
One thing was sure, though, those memories were probably all painful ones.
The people outside kept pushing, and their noise made me feel worse by the second.
I had no choice but to step through the doorway carefully, but as soon as I touched the light, I couldn’t help but scream.
The moment I made contact with the outside, my skin burned like it was on fire.
I shrank back in terror, then heard a young man’s voice.
“Claire Evans, what are you playing at? Didn’t you say you hated being in the darkroom? Now we’re letting you out, and you’re acting up?
“Come out quickly. Don’t upset Sienna!”
Like the middle–aged couple earlier, this man had a bad attitude toward me.
My whole body was shaking, and I couldn’t respond.
I didn’t want to go out at all.
They were right. I hated this pitch–black place.
I was so scared of the dark that my heart felt like it would jump out of my chest.
The world outside was bright, but something in my mind warned me that stepping out there would only bring me closer to pain.
The overwhelming fear slowly disappeared when I curled up like

a baby, hugging myself tight.
That was when I heard a girl’s voice again.
She sounds upset, her tone tinged with hurt. “Dad, Mom, Rylan, haven’t you gotten Claire to come out yet?
“It is all my fault for being so stubborn. Is Claire staying in there because she’s mad at me?
“Claire, I’m sorry, I know I was wrong. Won’t you please come out?”
I could hear her crying.
The three people who were so harsh with me rushed to comfort her, their tone a hundred times gentler than when they spoke to me. “Sienna, don’t overthink it. It isn’t your fault.
“Claire’s the one being difficult and throwing a tantrum. You’re our precious girl! Why should you apologize to someone like that?”
I thought, “Someone like that?
Are they talking about me?”
I rubbed my chest, feeling a dull ache.
Was I feeling sad because of what they said about me?

But I really couldn’t remember anything.
It was like a fog had settled aver my past, making everything hasy and unclear.
The people sutside didn’t care what I was thinking they spent time comforting their precious girl.
I heard their festatepe as they led the girl away.
But in the nest second, a large hand suddenly grabbed my arm.
