Chapter 7
I burst into tears, looking as pitiful as ever. “I’m a victim too. Isaac had an affair with Maria, and Maria even got her pregnant. I’m the one who’s truly innocent here.”
I pressed on, reasoning with her. “That baby is already dead, but what if Isaac refuses to admit the truth? If Maria insists. that Isaac forced himself on her, then you and Hugh will have no choice but to accept it. You’ll have to keep supporting that shameless woman.”
I leaned in and lowered my voice. “Let me be honest with you
this house and car? My parents paid for them. Isaac hasn’t worked in years and doesn’t have a single penny to his name. Even if you demand compensation from him, he has nothing to give you.
“The most important thing right now is to force Isaac to admit his relationship with Maria.”
Luna was sharp. It only took her a moment to realize I was right. Without wasting time, she gathered a large group of relatives, all of whom surrounded Maria, bombarding her with accusations.
Maria had just given birth–there was no way she could handle the pressure. She broke down, screaming for them to go after Isaac instead.
Meanwhile, Isaac was in the middle of getting treated for a

fractured shin. With so many people barging in, his treatment was interrupted. Chaos followed.
The commotion dragged on for ages. Eventually, Isaac, unable to stand the harassment any longer, tried to distance himself completely. He swore up and down that the stillborn wasn’t his.
Luna’s relatives didn’t let him off the hook so easily. They dragged him straight to Maria’s hospital room. I, still very much pregnant, was also summoned.
The first thing Isaac said when he saw me wasn’t about the mess he was in—it was, “Why didn’t you have your C–section on time? If you had given birth already, none of this would be happening.”
I forced out a couple of tears and gave him a look of absolute trust. “It’s my fault. I should’ve gone to the rooftop that day- maybe then you wouldn’t have broken your leg. But I believe in you. You love me so much. How could you ever have anything to do with Maria?”
Isaac hadn’t expected me to say that. But for years, I had been hopelessly devoted to him, never doubting a single word he said. If I weren’t so blindly in love, he wouldn’t have dared to fool around with Maria right under my nose.
He hesitated. “You really believe me?”
“Of course.” I patted my chest as if making a vow. “This is obviously a setup. Maria is framing you. Our baby is about to be born–we still have a beautiful future ahead of us as a family.

Isaac’s eyes darted back and forth between me and Maria. He had pursued Maria because he wanted access to Hugh’s generous pension. But now Hugh was glaring at him like he wanted to tear him apart. Forget getting money–Hugh probably wanted him dead.
Isaac was a selfish man. The choice was easy. “Don’t worry, honey. I’m completely loyal to you. Maria hooked up with some other guy and is trying to pin it on me.”
Maria froze at Isaac’s words, then burst into a fit of hysterical sobs. “You heartless bastard! I’ll tear you to pieces!”
Luna, standing off to the side, let out a mocking chuckle. “You spent money on him, carried his baby, got insulted and got beaten just to cover for him and now he won’t even acknowledge you. Was it worth it?”
Maria stared blankly for a moment before her expression twisted into something eerie. She slowly turned to Isaac, a sinister smile creeping onto her face.
“You really think you can do this to me, Isaac?” she said, her voice chillingly calm. “If I have to suffer, you’re going down with me.”
She shouted, “My baby’s father is Isaac! And if you don’t believe me, I have proof!”
