Chapter 9
I’ve always been someone who honors agreements, but unfortunately… My mom asked me to bring Nathan home for dinner.
That night, we nearly crossed the line.
It was raining outside, creating a cozy coolness in the air. I’d just finished showering but felt strangely hot all over, my skin hypersensitive.
Nathan had also just showered, with only a white towel wrapped low around his waist. Water droplets trickled from his damp hair down his collarbone, making
glistening trails toward the ridges of his abs.

I’ve always been weak for pretty faces and killer bodies. Always. And my husband had both in spades.
My eyes seemed glued to him, to the way the towel clung precariously to his
narrow hips.
“Alex, what’s wrong?” he asked, his voice deeper than usual in the quiet room.
Mochi, who Nathan had brought back to the family home, was cradled in his arms,
her round eyes blinking at me.
Nathan occasionally stroked her head with those long fingers, and she closed her
eyes in contentment, purring loudly.
I felt restless seeing this, warmth spreading through my body, and before I could stop myself, I blurted out: “Who’s your wife? Why are you holding her? Hold me
instead.”
My voice was probably a bit too loud, too needy.
Nathan froze, and Mochi meowed once before scampering from his arms.
Rain pattered rhythmically against the windowsill, forming a curtain of droplets.
The room felt electric with tension.
I finally realized what I’d said, my face flushing crimson as I hurried toward the
bedroom.
“It’s hot. I need to turn on the AC to sleep.” I was babbling now, desperate to escape my own embarrassment.
I’d planned to make Nathan sleep in the guest room, but in my flustered state, I

forgot to close the door, allowing him to slip in behind me.
He climbed onto the bed and pulled me into his arms before I could protest.

I struggled, but he used his strength to pin my wrists above my head on the pillow. His voice carried an unfamiliar hint of vulnerability that made my heart race. “Alex, you said you’d give me time to make things right, but I never get the chance
to talk to you. You don’t answer my texts, and I’m really worried.”
“I admit I’ve neglected you these past six months. The hospital’s been crazy busy
with the new cardiac unit opening, but I’ve been trying to make it up to you. I was
planning to take a proper vacation with you in the second half of the year, but then you said you wanted to leave me.”
He buried his face in my neck, his hot breath on my skin making me shiver as his lips brushed against my pulse point. I felt like I was burning up from the inside
out.
“Get off me, it’s too hot,” I protested weakly, not even convincing myself.
Just then, Mochi appeared and rubbed against my leg through the thin sheet.
Nathan promptly picked her up: “See? Mochi’s missed you so much while you’ve been gone. I… I’ve missed you too.”
Mochi adorably nuzzled my cheek, her soft fur tickling my skin.
I stared at Nathan’s heartbreakingly handsome face, my mind blank. His lips were
just inches from mine.
Wait, let me think. My brain’s loading…
Okay, it’s working now.
Meeting his expectant gaze, I smirked: “Really? How much? Take off your pants
and show me.”
