Chapter 78
Jealousy
Carter’s POV
“Uhmm…” she pressed a hand thoughtfully on her cheeks. “I can’t give you an answer to that now. Besides, it’s a family matter and you know her better than I do. You should know how to win back your wife.”
This was definitely not the time for her to be stubborn. I needed her to help me talk Veronica into accepting me back.
“Arie please…” I took her hand. “If you want me to get on my knees and beg you then I will. I just can’t live without her, please. I need your help.”
Arie stared at me, her gaze unreadable. For a long moment, she didn’t say anything, and I could feel my desperation growing with every passing second. If there was anyone who could help me get through to Veronica, it was her.
She sighed, shaking her head. “Carter, this isn’t just about me convincing her. It’s about you proving that you’ve changed, that you deserve another chance. You messed up, didn’t you?”
I swallowed hard and nodded. “Yeah. I did.”
“Then fix it.”
I clenched my fists, frustration building. “I don’t know how.”
Arie sighed and leaned back against the counter, crossing her arms. “Alright, fine. I’ll talk to her, but don’t expect a miracle.”

Relief flooded through me, and I almost grabbed her in a hug. “Thank you, Arie. Seriously.”
“Yeah, yeah.” She rolled her eyes. “But if she tells me she’s done with you, I’m not going to push her. You need to be ready to accept that.”
I nodded, but in my heart, I knew I wasn’t ready to give up just yet.
Arie glanced at her watch and stood. “I have to go, but I’ll see what I can do. In the meantime, try not to drown yourself in whiskey.”
I forced a small smile. “No promises.”
She gave me one last look before walking out, leaving me alone with my thoughts.
Veronica.
She was still my wife. No matter what happened, no matter what she thought of me now, I couldn’t let her go without a fight.
If she was with Orthon, then I’d make her see that I was the only man who should be by her side.
And if I had to make her jealous to remind her of what we had…
So be it.
Meghan’s POV
I watched her walk away from him after putting her hands all over him. This was the new tramp Carter was moving on to?
After planting a child inside me? He must really think I’m a fool that wast just going to sit back and watch him flirt around while we had an

engagement on ground.
I clenched my fists as I watched Arie walk away, my blood boiling at the sight of her. This was the woman Carter was turning to now? After everything? Was he trying to leave me pregnant and humiliated?
Did he really think I was some fool who would just sit back and let him do whatever he wanted? That I would just accept him chasing after Veronica while he had an engagement with me?
I wouldn’t let that happen.

Taking a deep breath, I smoothed out my dress and marched toward him. He was still sitting at the bar, staring into his glass as if it held all the answers to his miserable little life.
“Carter,” I said, my voice sharp enough to cut through the haze of alcohol he was drowning himself in.
His head snapped up, and for a moment, I saw surprise flicker in his eyes. before he masked it with indifference. “Meghan,” he acknowledged flatly. “Why are here? Didn’t I ask you to stay the fuck away from me? What do you want?”
I scoffed, crossing my arms. “What do I want? You have the audacity to ask me that after everything?”
He let out a tired sigh and rubbed his temples. “Meghan, I don’t have the energy for this right now.”
“Well, too bad. Because I’m not going anywhere,” I snapped. “I saw you with her. Is that the kind of woman you’re running after now?”
His jaw tightened. “Who I talk to is none of your business.”

“Oh, it is my business, Carter,” I seethed. “In case you forgot, we’re engaged. Or did that little fact slip your mind while you were busy chasing after Veronica?”
His eyes darkened, and I could tell I’d struck a nerve. “That engagement was a mistake.”
My breath hitched. “A mistake?”
Carter exhaled sharply and ran a hand through his hair. “Meghan, we both know this isn’t what you want. You only latched onto me because of money or perhaps the baby.”
I took a step closer, my nails digging into my palms. “And what if I did? That doesn’t change the fact that you have responsibilities now, Carter. You don’t get to throw me away just because Veronica is back in the picture.”
He was silent for a long moment before he finally looked at me, his expression unreadable. “I never loved you, Meghan.”
The words stung more than I expected.
I forced out a bitter laugh. “Love? Oh, Carter, love has nothing to do with. this anymore. But mark my words, you won’t get Veronica back. And if you try, I’ll make sure you regret it.”
Without waiting for a response, I spun on my heels and walked away, my mind already working on my next move.
Carter might think he had a choice in all of this.
But I was about to prove him very, very wrong. There was only going to be one Mrs Carter Grayson and that would be me or no one else.
Chapter 78
On getting to my car. I took out my phone and called him.
“Scorpio, do you have eyes on her?” I asked..
“No, ma’am. She hasn’t stepped out of the house since they got in. I think
they know they are being followed,” he responded,
“Is there a way you can attack her inside the house?” I asked.
“Yes.”
