Chapter 19
The next day, my boss called me into his office to discuss work–related matters.
“By the way, I wanted to ask you something.”
“What is it?”
“I have a friend who says there’s a young woman who transfers money to him every day, yet never chats with him. And this girl even kissed him on her own initiative. Do you think she’s just stringing him along?”
“Huh?”
“Well, fine, that friend is Mr. Knight–shh, don’t tell anyone. He’s been hung up on some young woman lately and it’s driving him crazy.”
“Oh.”
I wanted to tell my boss that his friend had misunderstood the situation, but I didn’t want to bother explaining.
For some reason, hearing this news actually made me a little. happy.
“Boss, are you and Mr. Knight close friends?”

“Of course! But seeing that weirdo in such misery makes me absolutely delighted, haha! You can’t imagine how strictly he’s disciplined himself from childhood until now. He’s always been like that perfect kid from another family, excelling at everything. He’s so self–disciplined that he barely even approaches women -you could never find his weakness. Just think how terrifying someone like that is.”
“Doesn’t Mr. Knight have a son?” I asked, confused.
“The boy isn’t his biological child. He brought him back from a rural summer camp during high school. The child’s parents died in an earthquake, so he’s always been extremely loving toward him. You didn’t think your ex–boyfriend was Mr. Knight’s biological son, did you?”
“I thought…”
“Jasper is only 32 this year. Logically, he couldn’t have a 22–year–old son. Think about it.”
“Ah…”
“He’s 32 this year?”
“How old did you think he was?”
“40.”
“Hahaha, I’m going to tell him that.”
I felt exasperated. Why did he have to share everything?

“You know what? When that girl said she liked white houses, Jasper started searching everywhere in our circle for newly built white houses–wouldn’t even consider second–hand ones. You probably don’t realize that such a small white house costs over a million.”
What? Did Jasper really go buy one?
I was shocked. I had just mentioned it casually.
“Jasper has been proud and aloof his entire life, but this time he’s completely defeated. Little Sara, you’re closer to Mr. Knight -tell me who this girl is. I’m dying to see what kind of person she is.”
I stared at my boss without saying a word.
“Why are you looking at me like that?”
“It’s not me. I’m straight. I don’t like men.”
I thought to myself, he couldn’t possibly think he was the girl, could he? How absurd.
My boss often gave me the illusion that if someone like him could make big money, then I could too.
