Chapter 15
“Congratulations, you finally left that jerk! You deserve better!”
“Girl, a man who doesn’t appreciate you is like trash. Just throw him away! You’re always the brightest star in our department!”
Some colleagues also comforted me. They saw Mira and Kingsley getting too close and hurting me. They couldn’t stand their relationship.
But five years later, I didn’t care about them anymore.
The next day, I suddenly received a call from my former colleague Zoe. She angrily told me that the two projects I worked on were messed up by
Mira.
I wasn’t surprised at all.
Mira’s professional skills were not even up to the standard of a junior researcher.
Kingsley always protected her and even used my research results to pave the way for her.
But when she was smug, she forgot that academic work can’t be muddled. through easily.
Kingsley thought Mira could be a good researcher. He always thought it was me being jealous and trying to suppress Mira, so Mira was unable to make achievements.
Since I quit, Kingsley waited for me to come back. He firmly believed that I “loved him deeply” for seven years, and I would quickly go back to
admit my mistake.
But he waited for so long, and I never came back.
The experiment projects couldn’t stop, and he handed it all over to Mira.
He was still confident, thinking that without me, the lab would run as
usual.
But he never expected that Mira would be unable to finish both the experiments and the data analysis. Mira even made a mistake that burned down half the lab!
The experiments and data were all ruined. The investors were furious and pulled out their funds, so the lab was about to close.
Kingsley screamed at Mira, and even hit her!
Mira cried and tried to show her weakness, as usual, to deal with Kingsley, but this time it didn’t work!
Kingsley furiously let her get out, cursing that she was useless and couldn’t do anything but cry.
Zoe also said that after I left, Kingsley had no one to take care of him. He was very clean and neat before, but then his life turned out to be a mess.
Mira couldn’t even cook or do any other housework.
Kingsley didn’t eat well, didn’t sleep well, and met many work problems. He had serious mental issues and was getting mad at any time.
But I had nothing to do with all this now.
Zoe suddenly changed the subject. She seemed to be a bit anxious and then asked if I could go back.

I said. “We already broke up. He should get out of my world completely.”
I knew Kingsley was listening to our conversation. He grabbed the phone.
“Emelia! When did you become so heartless?! How can you be so cruel?!”
I wanted to hang up….
“Please come back.” Kingsley suddenly begged me. “I’ve realized…I really can’t live without you. No matter in life or work. I can’t be without you.”
I said coldly. “Let me tell you again, we’re over.
Kingsley’s voice was filled with exhaustion. “I give up. You won. I’m completely defeated. Just come back. I promise I’ll go with you to get the marriage certificate.”
I didn’t care about his words at all, then I hung up.
I still had a bright future ahead of me, and I naturally wouldn’t go back for
this man.
Then I quickly joined a new project at the research institute, fully immersing myself in the new research experiments.
Frank, just like before, often discussed experimental data with me and generously shared some of his previous results with me.
With his help, I saved much time, and the progress of the experiment greatly accelerated. I was more and more confident.
Not only that, but Frank also often brought some cakes for everyone.
My assistant chuckled. “Professor Finley, since you came, Mr. Schuyler has been more cheerful. He wasn’t this considerate before!”

I pretended not to understand and just ate the cake.
It was sweet.
The second batch of experimental data came out, and I sat in front of the computer, working non–stop for two days and nights.
Frank brought food to us every night, even offering to stay behind and help out.
“Emelia, you go rest. I’ll take over,” Frank said.
My heart was warmed. “No, I can handle it.”
A tiny change or fluctuation in experimental data could mean a crucial result, and I always watched it myself.
I used to stay up for days and nights, and Kingsley never cared. He thought it was my job and I should have nothing to complain about.
Even though I refused Frank, he still insisted on staying to help me.
With his help, I could finally take a quick nap.
When I woke up, I found a coat over me.
I thanked my assistant.
She chuckled and explained, “Mr. Schuyler took this coat for you from the car. It’s not mine!”
For over five years, Frank quietly took care of me. He never changed, and it would be impossible for me not to be moved.
