Chapter 93
“Zak will drive you
ou to Wavecrest. If you keep this up, I won’t hesitate to remove your protection and leave you to fend for yourself,” he said.
“Cameron, how can you be so heartless? Callie cried out.
Cameron, however, ignored her.
If nothing unexpected happened, this would be the last time he ever saw Callie.
“Do me one last favor. After this, we’ll finally be even,” Callie said
“What is it?” Ca
Cameron asked.
“Withdraw my money from Borealis,” she replied.
“I’ll have Zak handle it. Cameron responded, turning away and walking off.
Callie didn’t chase after him.
Once she got the money from Borealis, her life would be set
Cameron didn’t matter to her anymore.
ney, she could have any man she wanted.
With money,
Glancing at her wristwatch, a sly grin spread across her face.
She wanted to see just how much Cameron loved Yanina. If Yanina were to die, would he ever marry again?
At the Watson residence, Yanina entered through the front door accompanied by Zoe and Yosef.
Jasmine’s face lit up with joy at the sight of Yanina, eagerly fussing over her.
Noticing Jasmine’s rosy complexion and cheerful spirit, Yanina could tell she had been recovering well.
She made a few adjustments to Jasmine’s medicine, left behind some dietary suggestions, and was about to leave.
“Yani, don’t go! Can’t you stay the night? You never tell me stories. Stay and tell me one, please?” Jasmine pleaded, clinging to
Yanina’s arm.
“I have to go out tomorrow, but when I get back, I promise to tell you a story. How about that, Jess? Zoe gently pulled Jasmine away, smiling as she spoke.
Jasmine obediently nodded.
Zoe lovingly patted Jasmine’s head. “She’s so attached to you. It’s like she’s known you for ages.”
Yanina smiled and ruffled Jasmine’s hair. “I’ll bring you some treats next time I visit.”
Yanina then turned to leave the Watson residence.
Yosef arranged for his personal driver, Logan, to take her back. Minina didn’t refuse.
The journey from the Watson residence to Yanina’s home at Purpleud Mansion wasn’t far, but it required driving along a

coastal highway.
Logan, in his forties and an experienced driver, drove smoothly
But as they turned a corner, Logan noticed something strange. Avan seemed to be following them.
He frowned. “Ms. Fulbright, I’ll speed up a bit. Please fasten your seatbelt. I have a feeling someone’s tailing us.”
Yanina glanced at the van through the rearview mirror.
un
Soon, the van sped up and positioned itself alongside their car, keeping pace.
Suddenly. Yanina was blinded by a flash of bright light.
A large truck was barreling toward them, high beams on full blast
The truck was intentionally trying to blind them.
Yanina instinctively closed her eyes.
“Watch out!” Logan shouted, followed by the deafening sound of screeching brakes,
Crash!
All three vehicles collided. The two vans were clearly modified, with reinforced bodies and high–friction tires. After flying several miles, their speed gradually decreased
Yanina’s car was violently flung into the air upon impact.
She curled up, hugging her head, but the force of the crash hurled her forward. The seatbelt dug painfully into her neck, nearly choking her.
The car spun around several times before it began sliding downward, finally coming to a halt after what felt like an eternity,
Logan was panting heavily, his voice trembling as he asked, “Ms, Fulbright, are you okay? Are you hurt?”
Yanina only felt a stinging sensation in her calf and arm, and her neck throbbed painfully where the seatbelt had constricted- her. Aside from that, she seemed fine.
“I’m okay, how about you? Are you alright?” she asked, her voice filled with concern.
Tm good. Though I gotta say, swallowing glass doesn’t taste great Logan joked, trying to lighten the mood.
Yanina let out a relieved sigh, close call, but they were safe.
As her mind cleared, a chilling realization dawned on her. Someone was trying to kill her.
From the van that had followed them, to the truck’s blinding high beams, and the narrow, unavoidable stretch of road.
It all pointed to a meticulously planned attack.
“Who’s trying to kill me? Christina? Callie? she wondered.
“Ms. Fulbright?” Logan’s voice snapped her out of her thoughts as he called her name repeatedly.
“Ms. Fulbright, there’s a light up ahead. Looks like someone noticed us and is coming our way,” Logan said, pointing toward the faint glow in the distance.
Yanina followed his gesture and saw several people approaching their flashlights bobbing in the darkness.

It had to be the bodyguards Cameron had sent to protect her.
The guards had spotted Yanina’s car, but it had slid too far down the mountainside for them to reach it easily.
But the car had slid into the middle of the mountain road, and they couldn’t get down.
“Ms. Fulbright, are you alright?” one of the guards called down.
Tm fine, but we need you to help get us back up.” Yanina replied
Using all her strength, she managed to push open the car door. Despite the severe crash, the Volvo’s sturdy frame had held up well. Although the car had been battered, it hadn’t been completely crushed.
Still, after such a jarring impact, Yanina’s legs felt weak.
Logan, an experienced driver who had been through many accidents, remained calm and collected.
As Yanina stepped out of the car, she sniffed the air and frowned Logan, do you smell gasoline?”
Logan inhaled deeply. The car’s leaking fuel. We need to move fast. It’s summer, the weather’s hot, and gasoline ignites easily, Let’s get out of here.”
The night was dark, and the hillside was covered in tall, overgrown weeds. Yanina could feel the sharp blades scratching her legs as they climbed.
Logan positioned himself behind her, ready to shield her in case the fuel ignited.
Soon, the bodyguards above lowered a rope. Yanina grabbed it, and with the added support, she managed to scramble up
much faster.
By the time she and Logan reached the road, they were both gasping for breath.
“Ms. Fulbright, the truck got away, but we’ve apprehended the men in the van. Mr. Zamora and Zak are on their way,” one of the guards explained.
No matter the cause, Vanina’s life had been in danger, and they hadn’t been able to prevent it. It was a failure on their part
“This wasn’t your fault, Yanina reassured them. “It all happened so fast. There was no time to react.” She gestured to Logan, addressing the guard. “Logan’s actions saved us.”
Just then, another car pulled up, and the driver hurried over to open the door. “We’ll take Ms. Fulbright from here, he said.
Yanina was taken aback. “Wait… are these two groups not working together? Is someone else protecting me besides Cameron? Carl, maybe? she wondered
Before she could process the thought, another pair of headlights appeared in the distance, getting closer.
Cameron’s car came to a stop, and he and Zak quickly got out.
The moment Cameron saw Yanina, he rushed over and wrapped her tightly in his arms.

“Are you alright?” Cameron asked, concerned.
I’m fine, but if you keep holding me like this, I won’t be, Yanina replied, half–joh
Realizing he was squeezing her too tightly, Cameron loosened his grip.
“I’ll handle the accident. I promise you’ll get the answers you deserve,” he assured her.
Yanina nodded but said nothing.
Would he really stand up for me if this involved Christina or Callie? Would he turn against them for my sake? Yanina held no such illusions.
Seeing her silence, Cameron opened the passenger door for her. Get in. I’ll drive you home. Zak will take care of everything
else
“Alright,” she agreed, getting into the car.
The night breeze by the coast was cool, and Yanina, still wearing the fishtail dress from the party, noticed the hem had been torn into shreds during the scuffle.
Just as she lowered her head to straighten out the frayed edges, a deafening crack sounded from the hill behind them. followed by a massive burst of flames.
The car exploded.
In a reflex, Cameron pulled Yanina into his arms, shielding her behind the car’s trunk.
Yanina could feel the searing heat wave rush toward them, and the smell of burning hair filled the air.
The moment triggered memories she’d rather forget.
She recalled the smell of that fire.
She began trembling uncontrollably, tears slipping down her face
Back then, during that other fire, a large hand had clamped over her mouth, forcing her to stay silent.
But this time, a strong man was holding her tightly, protecting her from the flames.
Yanina was touched–She gripped Cameron’s hand, wishing he could shield her like this forever.
But she knew better. They were divorced. There was no going back.
Cameron held her close, feeling her heartbeat. He found himself wishing the explosion had lasted Tonger, just so he could hold her a little while more.
The thought of losing Yanina if the explosion had happened just ten minutes earlier sent a chill down his spine.
His body tensed up at the mere idea.
That was a consequence he couldn’t afford.
“Yani. I love you,” he whispered deeply.
Yanina froze as though struck by lightning. She had narrowly escaped death, but Cameron’s words felt like a second blow

Awkwardly, Cameron stood up and reached out to help her, but the deliberately avoided his hand, getting up on her own.
“Yan he began, but Yanina cut him off.
“If you say one more word, I’ll walk home. Cameron, I haven’t forgotten what you did. Let me say this one more time. We are not getting back together. Take me home.” She opened the back door and climbed in without another word.
Cameron shot a furious glance at Zak and the bodyguards behind him. His anger was palpable.
cate. Thoroughly. I want every single person responsible for this found. I don’t care how, but by the time I return from Wanona, I want results,” he said.
“Yes, sir.” Zak muttered without lifting his head, too scared to meet Cameron’s gaze.
Rejected men were always dangerous. It was best to stay far away from their wrath.
On the way home, neither Cameron nor Yanina spoke. Each was lost in their own thoughts.
The car pulled into the underground garage, and they both stepped into the elevator, standing silently on opposite sides, waiting for the doors to close.
Tomorrow….
Tomorrow… They both spoke at the same time and then stopped, their words colliding in the air.
Tomorrow afternoon’s flight. Have your bags ready by ten. Well go to the Zamora residence for lunch with Grandpa before- heading to the airport, Cameron said, his tone casual but firm.
“Okay” Yanina nodded, not sparing Cameron a glance as she opened the door and entered her room.
Cameron, on the other hand, lingered at her doorstep, greedily breathing in the air she had just exhaled, before turning and walking away.
There were matters he had to deal with personally,
The next morning, Yanina did a quick livestream, announcing to her fans that she’d be taking a break. “I might not stream on schedule for a while, but I’ll be uploading short travel videos every day. Feel free to check out the scenery.”
Her fans were understanding, but the trolls couldn’t resist starting rumors.
[You’re just some pich guy’s mistress, going off on a vacation with him, aren’t you?]
[Scenery? Yeah right, more like going off to have fun behind everyone’s back.]
Yanina ignored the comments, ending the live stream before focusing on packing for her trip to Wanopar
Yetta had come home unusually late the previous night, but despite her exhaustion, she got up early.
“There’s something I forgot to tell Velta said, her eyes still half–closed as she lounged lazily on the couch.
“What is it? Yanina asked.
“Look at this photo. It’s the packaging for the Nirvana campaign you signed with.” Yetta handed her the phone. Yanina took the phone and stared at the screen.
The soft green packaging resembled the tender buds of early spring, that fresh, vibrant kind of green.

On the side, delicate vines of orchid weaved their way across, identical to the ones Yanina had casually doodled that day.
And there, on the left of the package, was a half–drawn face, a face she instantly recognized.
Though it was a stylized illustration, the distinct mark on her forehead, a tiny red crystal set in the center of the forehead, was unmistakable.
The half of the face featured an orchid tucked behind the ear, the same one she’d wom when she and Cameron had visited Mika’s studio.
“Cameron!” Yanina shot up from the couch, realizing he had used her likeness without asking for permission.
“I recognized it as you too. But the contract’s signed, and I’m not about to pay any breach fees. I spoke with them about the usage rights yesterday, and once they saw your photo, they happily offered 16 million as compensation. Yani, we hit the jackpot this time! Yetta said excitedly.
Yanina glanced at her. So, Cameron had bought her image with 16 million.
‘No wonder Cameron said he’d send more products once mine ran out. No wonder he insisted on me being the face of this campaign. It was all a setup: she thought bitterly.
Still oblivious to Yanina’s changing expression, Yetta closed her eyes and was too caught up in her own excitement. “Yani, with this payout, we’ve broken the 20 million mark on this deal alone. Twenty million! I can’t even believe it’s real. I’m already thinking about retirement.”
Yetta continued, “Yani, once you get back from Wanona, I’m enjoy life.”
culling our workload in half. You’ll have so much more time to
Yanina sighed. Cameron had indeed tricked her, but at least she made money out of it.
Suddenly, Yetta remembered something else. “Yani, you’ll be gone for a week, and while I’m not worried about your safety with Cameron around, be careful with him. He’s up to no good. He still wants to get back together? Huh! Marry anyone, but never him again.”
