In our three years of marriage, you kept in touch with Laverne, sending her explicit messages and expensive gifts. You’ve been using our joint assets. If I wanted to, she should pay me back for everything!”
As my words hung in the air, Ayden’s face turned a deep shade of anger.
He always accused me of being unreasonable and petty.
But the truth was that Laverne was the one manipulating him.
For the sake of his so–called dignity, I had been swallowing my pride and tolerating this.
It seemed I had hit a nerve; Ayden looked somewhat guilty.
“Patricia, have you said enough? I’ve always treated Laverne as a friend. I’ve never had any ulterior motives. Stop throwing dirt on us.” He still didn’t believe me.
I stared at Ayden’s face for a moment, then let out a scornful laugh.
In front of his parents, I opened the chat window with Laverne.
Before this, Laverne had occasionally sent me snippets of her conversations with Ayden, even screenshots of their intimate photos.
She had done this to provoke me, but it was like handing me the evidence on a silver platter.
Once the video finished, I returned to the matter at hand.
“The police are right outside. Since my diamond necklace can’t be recovered, why don’t we discuss compensation? Ayden, you took that necklace yourself, so this money…”
Before I could finish, Serena shouted, “Wait a minute! Your necklace wasn’t lost by Ayden, so why should he be held responsible?”
I smiled slightly.
“Serena, weren’t you the one just saying that Laverne is so close to you all? If anything happened to her, you would definitely seek justice on her behalf.
Now that such a huge incident has occurred, you can’t just wash your hands of it. Otherwise, how will you repay your debts?”
Serena was left speechless. Her face turned ashen as she shot Ayden a look.
Naturally, Ayden didn’t want to pay either.
His expression hardened as he turned to Laverne, no longer speaking in his usual gentle tone.
“Laverne, tell me the truth. Did you actually lose that necklace, or did you hide it yourself? If it’s really lost, where exactly did you lose it, and when?” Laverne just shook her head, tears still flowing.
“I know none of you like me, thinking I’m just seeking sympathy through pity. I’m just so insecure. Given the circumstances, I can’t argue anymore. I can only die to atone for my sins!”
