For the sake of my unborn child, I swallowed my pride and begged Loretta.
“Please, Mom…this is your grandchild. I’m begging you, let him live.”
It was the first time since our wedding that I’d called her “Mom“-and only to save her grandchild’s life.
Loretta sneered. “Don’t you dare call me that, you shameless woman. My son’s given you everything, and you repay him by cheating on him? Carrying some bastard?”
I shook my head, desperate. “I didn’t cheat. That video is fake–Al face–swap technology.”
Loretta spat in my direction. “Don’t give me that crap! I don’t even know what ‘face–swap‘ is, and I don’t care.”
“Besides,” she added, “that video came straight from my daughter, Diana. Why would she lie?”
I remembered how Diana’s kids once ruined my nap on purpose, and Ethan cut ties with her, even firing her husband from his company. Diana would have every reason to take revenge.
“She faked the video just to get back at me-”
Before I could finish, Loretta kicked me again. “You filthy tramp, cheating on my son and now insulting my daughter!”
She kept kicking, ranting as she did. “Ever since you came into this house,

on my son and now insulting my daughter!”
She kept kicking, ranting as she did. “Ever since you came into this house,
Ethan has done nothing but dote on you, cutting off his family to please you!”
I curled up, my hands clutching my stomach, tuning out her hate–filled
words. As someone who always believed in science, I found myself praying,
hoping someone–anyone–could save my child.
But Loretta’s next words shattered that last sliver of hope.
She turned to her friends and ordered, “Hold this filthy woman down. Let’s see her protect that bastard now.”
Four of them moved in, grabbing my arms and legs, pulling me flat on the
floor.
Tears streamed down my face as I looked at them, silently pleading.
“Please…don’t…”
Loretta’s mouth twisted into a cruel smile. She raised her foot and brought
it down on my abdomen with all her strength.
A scream tore from my throat.
But she didn’t stop. Each kick was harder than the last, leaving my body numb from the pain. Warm blood seeped through my clothes, confirming the horrifying reality.
“Blood! She’s bleeding!” one of the women finally exclaimed.
As blood soaked my dress, they backed off, dropping me to the floor.

Weakly, I placed my hands over my stomach, tears streaming down my
face.
Baby, I’m sorry. Mommy couldn’t protect you. Please, don’t hate me.
Rage simmered inside me as I glared at them, each of their faces seared
into my memory.
Slowly, I spoke, “Loretta, I swear, I will make you pay.”
Loretta smirked, holding up her phone. “What you need to worry about is explaining this to my son. I’ll let him see who you really are.”
She pressed a button to call Ethan. But before it connected, a familiar ringtone sounded from just outside the door.
The front door opened, and there he was–Ethan Stone, still carrying his suitcase, haggard from travel. He must have seen the pregnancy test picture and rushed home immediately.
Loretta quickly ended the call and hurried over to him.
“Ethan! Thank God you’re home!”
She moved aside, and Ethan’s eyes fell on me, lying on the floor with my bloodstained clothes and bruised face. He shoved past Loretta, nearly stumbling as he rushed over, his face pale with shock.
